I think I'm just about getting over yesterday but I have two thoughts...
(1) the events of Monza and Sochi triggered old memories. This is what every race weekend was like from the late 1980s (when I first started following F1) until 2012. When McLaren was in contention for the win every single weekend for most of that period. I still clearly remember the highs of Hakkinen beating Schumi in 1999/2000 and 2008 Brazil and the pain of the Hakkinen and Kimi last lap blowups while leading. I had forgotten what that felt like in the last 10 years.
(2) Yesterday showed that Monza was no fluke. I do not expect McLaren to contend for the win every weekend. But like Paul diResta said on Sky during the race, it is clear that McLaren has taken the next step and can threaten for the podium on most tracks.
Sundays mean a lot more now.
