ICE has been a 10 place penalty for a long time. Each extra swapped component is another 5 place drop. Usually the entire PU is replaced because it is all tightly coupled. Mercedes is trying a different approach and time will tell if it was a smart move.
Thanks again! I did not know those details.

I followed Mick Schumacher on Euro F3 and GP2(or "F2" as they rebranded it a few years ago) and never really got impressed by him despite his titles. I never saw the skills on him, to me he was just an average good driver. However, in F1, the kid is showing stuff I never expected to see from him.
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/vide ... 12950.html

He is so skilled on the steering wheel and drove perfect lines in that lap (in all but one corner),and in such tricky conditions. Laugh and mock me all you want but I no longer believe him to be another "also run", I see a potential bright career for him and I know many believe he doesn´t deserve to be in F1 and is only here due to his surname.

PS: Can anybody capture that video and share it over it, please? I had an addon on firefox(Video DownloadHelper) that could grab this kind of stuff but now it requires to install addional stuff that I´m not willing to because I can´t risk having viruses on my PC as I do important stuff on it

Oddly, I don’t think it does.
He did all the signing of the tyre shenanigans associated with pole, no? Surely, it’s counted as a quali pole but doesn’t get credited as starting the race in first place/pole position.
I don’t understand the logic here but I guess I was wrong.

It’s exactly the same reason Schumacher’s fastest lap in quali at Monaco 2012 doesn’t count as pole. You could argue makes more sense not to be pole in this case because in some cases a new engine could even get you pole, so I kinda understand.

Either way, ever was it thus.

Leclerc said they were running less wing today and so things were difficult but it should be an advantage tomorrow, what was his top speed down the back straight??
Read the same but didn’t see the top speed.

He will be hoping for a bone dry track as in those conditions he might even have an advantage. If so, and judging by the race pace in FP2, Leclerc could be right in the hunt.

Silverstone onwards, Zandvoort aside, Mercedes has been much faster than Red Bull. I don't see how Hamilton doesn't win tomorrow.

You could maybe expect this with the 2022 formula cars. However, the turbulent wake is still extremely powerful with the current formula. Hamilton can and will get stuck somewhere if it doesn't rain.

IF Bottas can keep Verstappen behind in the first laps, than I suspect the team will pit him early, to prevent a Redbull undercut. Than Bottas will struggle later in the 2nd stint and hold back Verstappen, while Hamilton can close in on the fighting duo.

Just watched that video on the last page.

So he gets pole, but it's not classed as a pole for the records as there is a race penalty? What a joke that is.

Has always been like that. For instance, the pole sitter of the 2012 Monaco GP was Mark Webber because, well, he started on pole.

Bottas is pole because he will start on pole while, at Monza, Valteri set the fastest lap on QLF, won the QLF Sprint Race(or whatever that nonsense is called) but started last, so, officially, no pole for Bottas on Monza 2021

It is a joke.. It should count as pole, since the fastest lap belongs to him. Then they should consider the penalty as something that causes him to not be able place his car where he should on the grid, right before the start. That's more logical imo, as approaches go.

One thing to consider in this all though, is the likely advantage gained(if any) in the quali session itself, due to having fresh components.

I'm surprised you didn't notice this before djones. Remember MSC Monaco 2012? That's the most prominent instance I remember. The pole position is as the name implies who starts the race first (at the starting pole).

I can’t find a reason for Bottas to make way for Hamilton in a scenario where Ham comes to P2, behind him. There is nothing connecting him to the team for the future and he is, possibly, racing his last grands prix with a realistic chance of a race win.
