Newey vs Brawn

Post

A Ross Brawn lead technical team, and an Adrian Newey designed car at the front?

Where have we heared that before?

Perhaps not so much of a change to the front order, as a restoration of he old(er) one, just with different colour cars....

An interesting observation that, as well as Brawn has no enineering degree, he started out as a machine-operator with March I think, while I belive Newey is a PhD of sorts?

Brawn seems to have a much better big picture view of things. Newey is a great aero guy but you see what happens when those guys lead the design philosophy without a mechanical guy to reign them in... they make cars that are more shook than crack babies.

cant really answer the question as i think they are very different animals....overall i would prefer to have brawn on my team as i think he can make more of a difference, but then i admire more this years red bull as the brawn is the result of 16 months of two wind tunnels, one of which was a 100%...it damn well should be good.

Silly discussion.

Hey do you like apples or oranges better?

Well, that's like comparing Brawns to Neweys.

Maybe you were thinking Rory Byrne?

Just based on the observation that they're a bit of a recurring theme in quick teams.

Byrne would also fall into this category, on the designer side with Newey, but he's not designed a car for a while. Has he retired, does anyone know?

On the technical lead side, I should probably throw Patrick Head in alongside Brawn, after all, the Will'ms ain't far off again this year either....

One thing is for shure, id like to put both of them together (Egos aside) and see what the come up with for a car. With a couple of good mechanical guys as well tho.

The 248F1 was the last Byrne car, AFAIK. He's been on file as a consultant since Tombazis took over as lead, I believe.

I remember F1 magazine did a similar apples to oranges comparison in the 90's between Newey and Shumi...

Newey won that battle

Brawn and Newey

Post

Hi Guys wondering your thoughts on the legendary people that are Adrain Newey and Ross Brawn.

Over the past years, apart from the renault cars, they have been involved with the cars who have won the F1 championship all be it with Mclaren, Ferrari and Williams.

Do you think they are really that good or good at surrounding themselves with the people they know will produce a good car? For example Adrain Newey and Geoff Willis?

Wonder what it would be like to get them in the same team to design a car!

The way I understand it, it's a bit like comparing Apples and Oranges. Newey is a Phd-aerodynamicist, while Brawn strarted off as a machine-operator with the old March team, having worked himself up in a most credible way to a technical and administrative management position with Ferrari. Now a team-owner at that.

Perhaps Newey and Rory Byrne would be a better comparison?

ah you have me worng. I wasn't tryin to compare them just wondering if anyone else noticed the fact they have been involved with the winning cars for many years! It can't be a coincidence if you have different teams with the same people, ie ross can employ the people who he can motivate to win, where as newey can work the aerodynamics to produce great cars.

I know that they are different departmemnts enitrely.
