I know there is thread about the diffuser, but here is the question. We have a date for the court hearings set. So, what do you think will happen there? What are the options?
The appeal, on the 14th of April, will be thrown out on the basis that rules are rules...and working the rules to your advantage is not illegal, it's intelligent.

My preferred outcome is that they allow these diffusers for this year, but with the FIA taking measures to ban them for 2010. I think they should allow them because
the size rules allow it,
allowing these partly helps the tire size issues caused by the very FIA and
forbidding it would hurt the three underdogs more than allowing it will hurt the other teams (apart from RBR).
On the other hand, I think the FIA should clearly ban them now for 2010 because they clearly go against the spirit of the rules and may invalidate all the work the OWG did on decoupling the diffuser and the rear wing.
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

if it was simply a case of dimensions then there would never be any disputes.
Im not sure what will happen, it could go either way.
If it did go against the gang of 3, then i suspect the fia will leave all results standing, and provide a date by which all teams are expected to meet the clarified regulations.
Politics will play some part... if brawn walk away with the next race by, as i suspect, a big margin, it will make it that little bit more difficult for them in court.
if there were a solution that would curb brawn but leave williams/toyota id be all for that. I say that because i think ross brawn being chair of the OWG makes it a little harder for him to claim he wasnt very well aware what the intension of the rules were, and he made no effort to identify the "grey area" he was probably already in the process of exploiting
I think they will keep their points. If the fia declare those teams illegal, this season is done. Brawn won't have the time to build another car (because changing diffuser means changing a lot of the car than just the diff.) Imagine, hamilton winning the melbourne gp with a mediocre car
A lot of fans will become angry when yet again the fia kills the sport with stupid sanctions. Those three teams just interpreted the rules a bit smarter than the others. So time for the others to stop being frustrated and start working on their diffusers.

I'll stop watching this year if the diffusers are banned and the 3 teams have their results stripped.
This appeal should be for clarification, the FIA should allow the diffusers this year and as someone else has stated take a view to ban them next season.
The diffusers are against the spirit of the rules maybe, but still within them. This is racing, not play school, teams aren't spending all that money in good spirit! They are going for wins.
Here we go again, an issue settled by lawyers. On each side are arrayed two forces, and in the middle are Max and Bernie manipulating the situation to their agenda. Trust me, this is exactly why the rules are written in such a manner. To allow Max and Bernie an opportunity to play thier games. I'm sure each side, and all involved teams will be making their own pitches to Max and Bernie, and trying to gain any advantage. The trouble is, what is uppermost in Max's and Bernie's minds is the threat by FOCA, and how to destroy this alliance.
The problem, is the decision favors one side, the others will be placed in a major disadvantage, where they most likely will have to embark on a major redesign of the entire car. So much for cost cutting measures... someone's budget is going to take a big hit, that's for sure.
Personally, I support the novel and clever interpretation that Brawn, Williams, and Toyota have done. As for the rest, guys.. you missed the boat. Doesn't happen often, but this time the ship sailed without you.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.
I'm wondering if we'll see the details of Williams' protest against the RB5 and F60 soon, as Williams still clearly want the "matter" resolved, as there is obviously a grey area exploitation going on there....just like some diffusers I could mention
FIA declared Renault mass-dumper illegal, but didn't strip the points. It is easy to take the dumper out, but re-designing the car will indeed take much more time and resources.
Also, if the diffuser is found legal, the WDC may be over half way through. BGP gets first 10 races and it is over with 8 races to go? Even if others copy the concept, it may be quite hard to get the maximum of the diffuser, given no testing is allowed. They may not catch BGP at all. Image how Max and Bernie will feel if the WDC is over early and the winning car is not equipped with KERS?

THEN WHY ARE YOU STARTING A NEW THREAD????
Enzo Ferrari was a great man. But he was not a good man. -- Phil Hill
Lets be fair - rules are rules and it is clearly legal. Its the same clever rule interpreting that won Ferrari loads of championships!
Ferrari and the rest of the motley crew have been caught with their pants down their ankles!? I do like the way that McLaren have been very quite on the whole thing - my thinking is they cant really scream "its illigal" because when it is deemed legal they will be miles behind!
