I am completely befuddled on how this car can be 1s faster than another in qualifying but be just as fast as it on the race (referring to the Alpine here). It's completely pointless to make any sort of predictions with this car. It's honestly impossible to know how this thing will perform. We just have to go into a race weekend and hope they have pace. But for the last 4 grand prix, we have been absolute sh!t.

It seems crazy to me that this car is the same car that was as fast as Mercedes in Austria, and barely slower than Lewis in Russia.
Can’t even pass an Alfa Romeo on a slower tyre which is 22 laps older🙈
Just a fan's point of view

Fighting to win races in some gps and with the Alfa and Alpine in others.

Baffling.

Can't really explain it. If I could, I guess McLaren would be hunting me down to hire me. It's down to the engineers who design the car. They have to understand why there's such a huge standard deviation in their pace and learn from it for next year.

If I had to guess though, I would guess it's something tire related. There's probably something that doesn't allow their car to use the tire as efficiently as the current top teams.

This track like COTA is very bumpy. This could be part of it.

Isn't the car weakness from medium and slow corners from 2019 and 2020? I remember we still have that weakness.

Fine margins. Inches away from being a hero. It is what it is, P3 isn't the be-all end-all some are making it out to be
Nah this is racing why would you want to get beat within the battle you are in?

If someone asks you why you watch F1 you wouldn’t reply ‘to watch the potential development for next years car’
Nah, it's just me not letting my orange tinted glasses affect my judgment of reality. Ferrari are clearly quicker. If it was for the championship, different story. So yes, right now in McLaren's journey, my focus is on next year and beyond. Still thoroughly enjoying the journey though.

Ferrari has had a way more consistent car throughout the year. The power unit upgrade just put them firmly ahead. Unless there comes another track like Austria or Russia where stars align for this car, we are never going to be faster than Ferrari again this year.

P3 Done. Oh well. Roll on next year. They need to finish that Wind tunnel and Simulator ASAP. Miles away to the front. They have been saying its 2 years from completion since May last year for some reason. Like common.

Personally I prefer to see the glass half full. Come on guys. Enjoy the journey. Don't forget that Zak Brown is still building the team. Did you forget where we used to be some years back? Ferrari had all the luck this year but that is Formula 1. Mclaren, Daniel and Lando will learn from this year and next year with the reset James Key will produce a beast of a car. It's not a matter of IF but a matter of When.

Absolutely correct. Small margin in the high speed and potentially traction. In every other area the Ferrari is currently the superior car. But we have achieved a lot considering. A win has exceeded my wildest expectations. Be thankful. And bring on next year

Let's not forget that Ferrari was a championship winning car two years back and aerodynamically they were better than Mclaren but suffered a low engine in 2020 and recently in 2021. I would say it is Mclaren that came closer to Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes. It's a matter of time before we pass them if we keep making larger strides than them. Next year we wont have any restrictions to make our car.

It's just so incredibly infuriating to watch a car that has had enough pace to eat the entire midfield this year, barely keep up with Alpine and Alfa Romeo, which were not even that competitive here to begin with.

On the realistic side, P4 is not a bad result for the team, because this year they took a massive step forward compared to the last couple of years. I just hoped they would put somewhat of a fight to Ferrari at least. But they are completely helpless and that's annoying.

I would say they put up a good fight to Ferrari all this year. Ferrari was just luckier and more consistent when that mattered. Today especially Daniel gifted like 18 points to Ferrari. Let's enjoy the last 4 races as it's still not over till the last lap. The reset of next year gives Mclaren the chance to do a Brawn GP.
