That would consign him to the back of the grid for the race as well. It depends on how confident he and Mercedes are in their ability to recover to a decent position even with the looming 5 place grid drop.

I mean, even if he did recover to say - 5th (which I find rather far fetched), he'd start the race in 10th. On a second thought, that would actually be alright. but if he ends up in 8th-9th in the sprint, I guess it's better to take an entirely new PU, and start from the back, instead of in 13th-14th.

Well, starting in the middle also increases chances to get wiped out right at the start. So it is a bit of a pickle.

his speed advantage was less driver, more car. Even Lando mentioned that Lewis didn't have to work for it at all. Will be interesting to see what happens with their rear wing, they got caught with one technical infringement but Redbull has already said they know that something else is happening, wether that is legal or not of course is another matter. But Lewis isn't the reason he ran through the field, sure he's great but his car has a massive top speed advantage

I mean you don't need any special talent to overtake when your car is 10-15 km/hr quicker on the straights - But it was a great drive from Lewis. He may have had a much quicker car but made the most of it & drove an amazing sprint race - Congrats to him. The new ICE will be 3 race, 3 qualy & 1 Sprint old by the time it gets to Abu Dhabi & the Mercedes engine falls off fast but Saudi & Qatar should both be Mercedes specialty tracks - This will go to the wire & it is great to see a motivated Hamilton fighting & Mercedes trying to recover from the back - Should be a great spectacle !

Ah the usual 'its car' bollocks comes up again as soon as Lewis does a great job. If it was max doing the same it'd be all max no doubt. Lewis overtakes didnt look any different from any other drs overtake. If he didnt drive t12 well then the overtake wasnt on. If the straightline advantage was so great he'd have passed every one first time of asking into 4 or 1.

IMO, If it hadn't been for kimi's spin, he would have had 2 more before turn 2 of the second lap.

Really hope Lewis wins tomorrow. I think it would be tough for RBR to recover from that. Would make for an exciting finish to the season.
