Yesterday was biggest blow to my optimism that Max can win championship. They way redbull was behaving on track it was just matter of sealing the deal. Whole weekend car had no issues in that corner so when i saw he is 2 and half tenth up after sector 2 . I was jumping and in just that moment ,i feel championship is lost. 99.99% hamilton gonna win championship.
Concentrating on hitting wall may cause that but if you concentrate on pace redbull have it will change. This time they are faster on harder compound too. If he starts from 3d he has very big chance.
I appreciate your optimism but they way luck has been sliding with Hamilton i see very less hope. Hope your optimism wins the battle because Max deserves this championship.
Verstappen has a few tenths in hand so 3rd place start is not the end of the world. There are a few upsides as well, Verstappen's tires are in better shape than Hamilton's and given that the mediums can't do more than 16 laps, and his already have 8 laps in low fuel I'd say he'd have to pit round lap 11-12 while Verstappen can overcut a bit. The important thing will be to get past Bottas and hopefully starting behind Hamilton Verstappen can steal a tow into turn 1/2. Safety car is guaranteed.
Mediums cant do 16 laps? Sure about that?
Where did you get that one from? Did you not see guys doing all of Q3 on six laps of fuel and one set of softs and still going faster?
The mediums will finish the race and drive the cars to Abu Dahbi.
Marko as stated that RedBull will change gearbox, if any doub of damage since the car is quick. Max will make it up the field but the Mercs will be maybe ten seconds ahead. The field spread is low here so they will not put Max if there is an early safety car and they will not attempt undercut either until a gap is there... Max has set up for fast warm up. But when will the opportunity come unless he can jump 5 cars in a matter of laps?
We'll see, the pace drops off on the mediums after 12 laps, no point in carrying on when the undercut is worth a second per lap. It's one thing to putt around with 10kg of fuel vs 110kg the latter is asking far more from the tires.
Predictably PAS (Power Assisted Steering) rack, front wing but not front suspension? fixed.
I think they would have changed the gearbox if damaged, does not even show they replaced seals or gears or dog rings etc. So it must be pristine. The sporting regulations say once you in another gearbox then you have to use it for 6 races consecutively. So clearly they didn't see damage significant enough to change it since they'll have to use the same gearbox next weekend as well.

I've barely seen a track with less degredation all season. Would be very surprised if any of this comes true, tbh
If true that tyre deg is negligible then pitstops will just be a game of chicken. Also depends on field spread, Ham wouldn't want to come out behind Perez or Alonso after pitting, those guys will fight him.

Pre 2013 they were able to service the gearbox between sessions/races, replacing dogs and seals (and of course gears). Since 2014 they aren’t even allowed to open the casing. So, no way to change seals, bearing or anything.
A potential 26 point loss if the gearbox does not make the end? I think someone in the team will be down to their knuckles by the finish.
Yeah If they give that up it will be over indeed. That's why I think the risk of 10 place grid drop would've been worth it.
No matter the outcome, it has been a good season. Never did many people imagine a driver would ever challenge the Hamilton orthodoxy, challenging the GOAT is a great achievement. Vettel came close but really he bottled it much sooner both years and wasn't as forceful/aggressive as Verstappen is now. There's always next year.

You're right, they can't change parts around systematically like on 2 race or 1 race basis but you can change upon permission to do so, like in a damage/collision situation etc.

Only in a case of a production failure or something. Not because of a crash. Same for the PU.
If you break a seal, it’s a new gearbox.
Adrian doesn't sound super confident about the gearbox!
I mean how can they assess without Dyno etc?. I'd really oved to know how they assess cause the last time actually had to send the parts to Honda in Japan for assessment. I think they know they are rolling dice, it will be so tragic for it to just crumble here.

The seals yes since they are placed by the FIA themselves. Hearing this more is just absolutely fuelling more doubt in me. Imagine if this is Max's only chance ever, it will be truly tragic.
