jesus, I can only assume the camera didn't adjust well to the light because a few times I felt the driver would plow into a wall because he couldnt see anything!
It's an illusion created by the cut floor. The Mercedes rake didn't change much, it actually operates very flat at full load and probably even more so. The entire field of of flow structures would need to be redone from scratch if the original rake adjustment range was changed. And such a mid-season change would be suicide financially and performance wise. What I think Mercedes did is make the vortices around the floor tighter by fiddling with the front wing and the little floor fences.SiLo wrote: ↑22 Dec 2021, 02:34I was impressed with how much rake the car ended up with even though the changes were minimal to the aero package. Top effort from the engineers and designers. I imagine they might have learned a lot this year that is applicable to all future years because it was such a deep dive experiment on learning the car.
The pictures of the car on track tell a very different story than an article from April.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑24 Dec 2021, 23:45It's an illusion created by the cut floor. Are you suggesting that the teams just change the rake mid-season then? Very serious claim there after the message from the team engineers that I posted.SiLo wrote: ↑26 Dec 2021, 19:47The pictures of the car on track tell a very different story than an article from April.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑24 Dec 2021, 23:45It's an illusion created by the cut floor. I've searched for some pictures and its hard to find the right ones, but what it looks like to me is that they ran more rake, but the trick suspension flattened the car more at speed than previously.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑26 Dec 2021, 22:26Are you suggesting that the teams just change the rake mid-season then? You can compare the distance between the top of the diffuser to the bottom of the crash structure between the 2020 and 2021 cars.SiLo wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 15:27I've searched for some pictures and its hard to find the right ones, but what it looks like to me is that they ran more rake, but the trick suspension flattened the car more at speed than previously.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑26 Dec 2021, 22:26Are you suggesting that the teams just change the rake mid-season then? I'm struggling to find better pictures that are static from testing vs end of season.
Why would the distance between those 2 parts of the bodywork change if the rake were changed?PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 18:57You can compare the distance between the top of the diffuser to the bottom of the crash structure between the 2020 and 2021 cars.SiLo wrote: ↑27 Dec 2021, 15:27I've searched for some pictures and its hard to find the right ones, but what it looks like to me is that they ran more rake, but the trick suspension flattened the car more at speed than previously.PlatinumZealot wrote: ↑26 Dec 2021, 22:26

The distance is virtually the same suggesting the rake hasn't changed.
