McLaren MCL36 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Well well, very nicely spotted by scarbs! Back to something we and ferrari tried to master before, but not really succeeded with. But maybe this new era fits better and the technology now allows better, i dont know.
After listening to James Alisons usual great stuff, about some will go very wrong with the new car, and thats not what im saying! It just made me reflect on his thoughts. Im quessing with this new era you could approach it differently. Either full attack mode, going all in, with bold choices and with the risk of falling very hardly, throwing away a year, or going a bit conservative, chosing the safer general solutions, with buffer build in, to be able to implement other teams solutions… One is build with fear of falling and wanting to hit the ground running, the other from confidence, courage and the willingness to attack. Now will be interesting to see which teams follow which route. Mclaren are normally pretty bold. And with this front sus solution, they definitly seem comitted. But again, maybe nowadays its a simple thing.?

A small part of the lateral safety structure can be seen...

Mechanically linked front to rear with an only heave element to avoid pitching under braking / acceleration?

Feasible? According to rules? FRIC was banned, but was hydraulic...

No, I think that could be a stand or a wire feeding in and out of the car.

Hydraulic suspension has been outlawed for ‘22, meaning only the springs and dampers can control the stiffness. Definitely no front/rear linking

My drawing over the photo was pointing to a mechanical link, not an hydraulic one.

And very, very exciting!!
If the image that appears to show pull-rod front suspension is a view of the front of the tub from the rear it has a very unusual shape.

It's been a while since I looked closely at a steering wheel. What are the 2 rows of 3 LEDs on each side of the display used for?
