I have the gut feeling that McLaren will show something different with the sidepods.

Longitudinal gills to generate a vortex along the sidepod "edge" to get more air just over the floor?

I think it will be similar to aston martin solution witht the sidepods where they are trying to get a massive undercut to direct airflow underneath and along the floor.

The AM solution does have it's negatives though, they are potentially sacrificing rear wing performance by venting on top of the sidepods. Time will tell if it outweighs the benefit of energising the section below it. Personally, I hope it does, as it creates such a beautiful line on the car. The aggressive downwash of old never looked great to me, although aesthetics never truly matter.

Hmmmm... Now that you mention it, I'm not sure. Apart from the shape, the orange bit in the background looks like the halo to me.
