Red Bull RB18 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not wishing to continue with off-topic, but how can anyone be fooled by that photo, just look at the very basic grass 3d model below...
My only excuse Rikhart is wishful thinking. Personally I consider the 2022 cars to be insanely ugly, illogical, dysfunctional and anything else you can think of, to throw at them! The fool things are nothing short of an insult to what formula one teams and their car designers have been producing for decades and on which rests the culminated excitement of last year’s racing. All of which is about to be basically binned because of one very stupid person’s ridiculously stupid effort to improve overtaking. If the car behind is having trouble maintaining front downforce improve the downforce of that car, for instance, all cars! Simply put the front wings behind the front wheels adjustabley mounted on carbon fibre box beams attached mid-way between the front wheels. That, to me would make sense. Aesthetically, less debris, concentrated air off the inside front wheel on turn-in, improved ground effect control and something to latch a VG on.
I’m sixty seven years old and silly toys fail to attract my interest.

To me the new cars are just a series of tubes.

Personally I think it's premature to make that sort of judgement until we've watched a few races. Far from producing spec cars, we've seen incredibly interesting design variations, and I suspect the actual RB18 will feature yet more unique solutions to discuss. The cars look much better to me than I thought they would, and can't wait to see them on track.

People claim they used the Camo-Bull livery and still Twitter stories about the special front wing.

Hmmmmm :-k the time quoted seems excessively quick. 1:26:500 is only a few tenths off pole and this is being done with non-standard tyres? Makes me question all of it.

1:26.5 around Silverstone? That's pretty much matching last year's pole time. Or .35 off last year's pole.

Then it must be nonsense, surely?

Probably not the Silverstone GP layout.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, there were rumors that said the new car was faster than the old one in the simulator. Newey has a lot of experience with ground effects cars. I for one can't wait to see the new car, but I can wait, it's only a matter of time before we see all the cars.

The lap time is too low to be anything but the full layout. Those laptimes are more akin to road cars using the alternate layouts.

Same person says this in a reply.

I think this stuff is highly dubious personally. Seems way too quick for filming day. This is the speculation thread but I appreciate if this is too far. Only giving this credence as other sources have today mentioned a shakedown:

Indeed. When questioned further about the time they immediately mention it's not official as if to hastily absolve responsibility if it's completely off-base. Will chalk it off as dross until anything confirms it

Anyway. I do believe that a shakedown has occurred this afternoon due to significant evidence eg Sergio arriving to MK yesterday, Max's plane arriving in London earlier today, the report by @ErikvHaren and Max's physio posting the now-deleted following photo about the time the shakedown is purported to have occurred:

Simply do not believe laptimes reported so far.
