Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Lasagna floor, I was suspicious they were gonna do something like this. The nose does not seem like the final version TBH. Let's wait.

Did they not stop using the rippled floor during the season last year. Interesting that they brought it back

The mirror has a nice vane running behind it over the sidepod. Sidepod looks very slim here. It doesn't look like they are going the same way with other teams that are using the sidepod to manage tire wake.

The body from the top reminds me of the W12.

Actually I wonder if that was originally developed for this year. Maybe they were gathering data on it for use for this year.

Is the front of the sidepod not shaped very similarly to the Aston Martin with the flat section designed to push the tyre wake outboard? It looks almost identical to the AM in this feature IMO

Yeah, those renders look pretty and clean, and to be honest make the livery look nice. But the real car shows a lot more interesting design and details especially for the floor!

Silver livery is back, and the nose together with the front wing literally looks like an arrowhead, looks great!

I'd remove the "render" pictures, the car is completely different, it's not even close.

Are those officially released renders?
agree. The officially released ones on the Mercedes site are identical to what's on the SM channels.

the only real images we have of the car are going to be from the launch video and whatever they film at Silverstone on track.

Incredibly tight packaging, possibly the tightest we've seen so far? Also, can anyone see the rear pull/push rod on the real car?

EDIT: Found the pull rod!

Inboard section of the FW is probably the flattest of all the teams so far, almost neutral, are they using that to guide air into the tunnels?

Interesting stuff going on here. The render and the real car does not look the same. They're hiding and showing something on both the render and the real one. Perhaps to confuse the opposition?
  • I don't think the lasagna floor isn't gonna stay.
  • Definitely the floor intake on the real car is too simple while cannot be seen on the render.
  • The real nose and front wing is not being shown on neither the real car nor the render.

Yes, most definitely.
