I do wonder, if those complaints sustain, might we see changes.. and what changes might be implemented without hurting the path they took with 18 inch tyres?

I've always said the fronts should've been 16"... Still road relevant...

There was no need to change them in the first place. Road relevance is not relevant in a prototype series run on closed circuits.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Exactly. Road relevance in most places would be big knobbly tyres and 6 inches suspension movement.

It's commercially relevant, that's what matters. Don't forget, F1 is an advertising industry - not a technology one.

Commercially relevant? How is a 130mm sidewall on an 18inch rim commercially relevant? That's SUV AT sidewall depth, not sports car rubber band tyre sidewall depth.

If they want to be "commercially relevant" these days, they need to be doing 20 inch rims or larger.

You just answered your own question.

There are a lot more road cars running 18" than 13" or 20".

I always viewed "road relevancy" as a by-product from packaging/power/weight/drag R&D simply increasing the understanding of the road car design and test teams.

Like F1 suspension. The sheer mechanical genius needed to simplify and lighten these systems could greatly impact the packaging and weight of a road vehicle. The hybrid control algorithms are also road relevant in the aspect of efficiency. Ducting aero is also a large contributing factor to a road cars drag numbers. All of these things that are utilized in a very specialized setting like F1 can still be very beneficial for OEMs to make safer, more efficient, lighter, less draggy, more nimble, and easier to drive road cars.

It's how you harness the data, as F1 is famous for proclaiming. 😉

It would be mega to see the Andretti name back on the F1 grid. Not to mention the fact that we've been stuck with only 20 cars for ages. It doesn't give them much time to get their act together though.

Apparently, they are ready… They only need FIA’s approval… But yes, it has to happen soon if they are to start in 2024 (surprised he didn’t buy Haas)

Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think HAAS would totally welcome a partner if not sell.

Makes one wonder what the contractual obligations between HAAS and Ferrari may be...🤔
