Verstappen was on race stints.

I don’t expect alpine to fight for the title, but I want them to win some races and target P3 in constructor

I fear they will still be on the midfield, but let’s see
Midfield is probably the most likely spot but they ran the whole day with no DRS apparently, which is close to 1 sec.

well it is a little too early to look into laptimes.

Alonso spent the whole day without drs, he was loosing 20kp/h in the pit straight .

Also i'm pretty sure that the engine is taken in a very cautious manner.

Using the time sheets of winter testing, let alone the fist day of testing, is the dumbest thing ever.

A car that finishes high in the timesheet of a winter test day, isnt necessarily a fast car, and a car that ends up low in the timesheets isn't necessarily a slow car.
Did you discover F1 yesterday in a drive to survive episode?

I don’t understand why year after year people are looking at and are judging by the laptimes of the first test.

To me it looks like it’s a solid start for Alpine. It’s great that they managed to do so many laps, but hopefully it also translates into aero efficiency, good handling and speed, as reliability is nothing without them.

No team has the race 1 package here in Barcelona.

You can see things in those times.
Like RB last year, Mercedes before or Brawn in the past

Car spending most of their days in the top times have a great chance to be fast ones

How do you know Alonso wasn't on race stints?

I thought we had only one day of testing...
Anyway, this BS doesn't belong to this technical thread.

agreed, I think we should leave his test here. If we really want to look at performance in a winter test, lets at least wait until bahrain last day, but truth is there is still a big question mark on the engine and thats what they're gonna be looking into mainly in barcelona. They wanna see what they can do with it first.

I think the mileage is great for first day..
that’s what we can look into.
Cool running so vents were closed off..
there weren’t any reported spins and the pace on the C3 was good.
Like all teams the proof comes when the engine modes get fixed and we see if the package can activate its tyres over 1 lap.
Qualifying strongly is a huge advantage in the current formula..
starting p8 is never going to let you have aggressive race strategies.
The cars in the top 4 can usually gain enough time for a free stop in the first 15 laps..
Let’s hope the car is strong

New engine doing ok so far , after rumours of it not starting yesterday. Not seen any news on breakdown so far. Hooefully it stays that way.
They are probably running it very conservatively to make sure they can do the aero test.
