Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Enough.

Vanja has put together some technical content for a technical forum. Vanja is not Mercedes. Vanja doesn't have Mercedes CAD. To assume that he claims it to be exactly identical in performance is delusional.

The purpose of these sidepod simulations was to provide insight into the "broad overall flow regime" in each of their presence. The reason why he, jjn, and myself recommended against numbers is for this very reason. They are to serve as a delta in order to point out how each team's design "might" be aimed at achieving.

To everyone jumping on the bandwagon here, for one to feel the need to "comment" and point out "wElL yOuR cAd IsNt ExAcTlY tHe SaMe sO wRoNg!!" doesn't make you a technical contributor who feels obligated to issue a warning to all potential viewers of the content; it makes you an obnoxious armchair expert who feels like they need to state the obvious to everyone around you when nobody cares in the first place because we already know.

Back on topic, please. The place to discuss Vanja's CFD is here viewtopic.php?t=30249

Can someone translate the Italian? I don't think we can rely on a virtual translator.

The Brake Duct 2022 a new challenge there is no longer the dissipation of heat towards the outside of the wheel, which leads to "sealing" the entire affected area.
Here we can see how #Mercedes on the # W13 built it (highlighted) inlet and outlet ducts # TechF1 # F1

inlet and outlet ducts being sealed, the Brake Duct must increase their efficiency in terms of heat dissipation, for this we see a hub body that has no openings (center).

I'm italian and it is written in a very bad way, the transaltion is still accurate but has no sense also in the native language (at least to me). The only part missing in the translation is the first bracket that is: (highlited)

Doesn't need to be for testing. They're trying to find out what, if any, impact it has. If they thing the extra stiffness is required, they'll incorporate reinforcement into the next floor revision.

I'd be willing to bet most of the significant/most beneficial changes will be on the underside of the floor, and that a lot of people will be in for a big let down at the next round of testing!

A gentle reminder: posts about livery, please, in the team threads, not the car threads.

I am moving a few of those to the team threads, tough luck if they end up out of sequence there.

I am also moved all that CFD discussion, which ended mostly not being about the W13 specifically, to the sidepod CFD thread.

Interesting. I don't recall this on the floor before. It is new? an opening in the tea tray area. just what might that device be up to..

Size and placement makes me think it's their duct for driver cooling. Merc aren't running the duct from the nose like Aston, RB and Ferrari so may be taking it from the t-tray? Not sure though

Edit: nevermind, again ](*,) #-o

Merc have duct on the nose. It's Zetsche's mustache.

When the engine cover is off the tub appears to be very fat beside the radiators. I also find that this car has very few heat exchangers in the pods compared to mercedes customer teams. Could they have place more heatexchangers inside the monocoque this year?
Can at heat exchanger be place inside the fuel tank? or in that volume?
For Sure!!
