I might be wrong, but didnt Mazepin Snr pay for a private Merc Test for Nikita a few years ago?
More like a private test programme I seem to remember.
The merc team put that Urakali money to good use…….
Petrov, Kyvat, Sirotkin. No shortage of Russian money in F1.

For a team as haas, it wouldn’t be a problem to have a driver not able to compete in one race. They could have sold the seat for one race to the highest bidder.
Probably UK is just the beginning... Haas was concened that Mazepin wont be allowed to race in a lot more countries during the year, and having a different driver for every GP is a problem.
Not if you are running at the end of the grid anyways. Maybe we see a fight against Alpine and Alfa at the beginning of the season, but from the point of testing I see no other conclusion as that Haas is behind as usual.

“I think we’re looking. I think we’d obviously like to get someone with a bit more actual experience,” Haas told the AP. “We just have to see what’s available.”
Hulkenberg, Hulkenberg, Hulkenbeeeeeeerrrrrggggg!!!!!
I like the Hulk. best driver not driving , for sure. Maybe in the top 12 of Current F1 drivers. I place him even with Ocon better than Vettel

Competing with Alpine ? wow so we're talk top 3!

I have no Clue where they're gonna be on race one but I will say that Ferrari in 2020 was almost always in the top 3 on the time sheet in preseason testing and they finished 6th in the Constructors championship that year. That was a year where Ferrari had 2 to 3 times the budget of more than half the teams in F1. If it can happen to Ferrari it can happen to anyone. I will says we all had an Idea that year that Ferrari was running light because of the Sensor thing from the year before.

Oh and I'm also of the mind that there will NOT be a midfield this year. Think you're gonna have a bunch of cars bunched at the front (minimum 5 teams but maybe 7 or 8 ) and maybe a couple of cars like Haas (that are running lighter budgets, if they are) at the back. Maybe just that the Front end of the grid will contain may more teams than we're used to.

Looks like the seat is trending towards KMag, which would be awesome. :D

I think that's better than spin but not as good as the Hulk.

I like the idea much better than Hulk. Very easy integration, knows the team better than any other available driver, no fuss, solidly quick.

Once his neck is back to F1-spec he'll do well.

Why bring back KMag when there are a dozen youngsters that would love a shot.

KMag was always so-so. I'd rather any of the Ferrari academy drivers or Colton Herta over him.

Kmag is a good choice. Good benchmark for Mic. Hulk has done his time and failed to capitalize in critical moments as skilled as he is. Kmag is an agressive midfield fighter is the type of driver Haas needs.

HAAS needs someone with a bright future, not a mediocre past.

Because they already have a crash happy FDA youngster. Why burden yourself with two?

Herta doesn’t have superlicense points and who says the FDA drivers are quick enough?

They could have sold the seat to Alpine for their juniors, or even put Kubica in there if the asked Alfa. Let's not forget Giovanni held his own against Kimi. I don't rate KMag even on that level...🙄
