No difference between C4 and C5? How come?
Too soft for the heat there mainly, push hard and they just overheated halfway through a run

Can the McL brake problems be as deep as the wake profile of the front wing causing interference, or is it simple internal ducting?

Oscar Piastri will step in for Daniel if he’s not fit to race next week:

McLaren believe Daniel Ricciardo will be fit for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix after being hit with COVID-19 - but his absence could offer a shock opportunity for the latest Australian motor racing star Oscar Piastri.

Alpine have offered their reserve driver Piastri, seen as one of Formula One's future luminaries, as a stand-in for McLaren.

Yep, run late at night like HAAS and you can take advantage of those C5s.

We don't know. The only thing we have heard from Lando is that it is not a simple problem, hard to fix. That's all we know really. But that much was obvious anyway. If it was an easy fix they wouldn't have burned 3 days of testing because of it.

Is it possible they made a huge mistake like in 2018 car?

Yes. I think the brake issue is huge.

Probably fine in the colder races, but next weekend will be tuff. A struggle to get to Q3.

I don't think its gonna be a problem reaching Q3. The car should be fast to get in the top 6 or 8. The issue is if the car manages to finish the race without overheating brakes. I hope the update package for Race 1 fixes it completely and help the team push cause I think we couldn't push today our brakes to the limit.

Not comparable. They didn't figure out what was wrong with the 2018 car until much deeper into the season. In fact, it's because of 2018 that most journalists have labeled McLaren's good test laps as glory runs. Because they ran quali sims with Alonso on the last day, got very close to Kimi, and then we started racing they were nowhere near the front.

Anyway, that was a bit off topic.
At least in this case, they know exactly what has gone wrong, but depending on how fundamental the issue is, the solution might be very difficult. I am just hoping it's just time-consuming difficult and they simply didn't have enough time to fix it during the 3 days of testing. If it's genuinely a tough problem to crack, it's going to hurt them badly on hot races (if they even manage to finish races).

No, it won’t be Piastri… Alpine has offered Piastri to McLaren, that doesn’t mean they have to use him… The most probable candidate would be Fittipaldi

They didn’t burn 3 days of testing, they still did a lot of the tests they needed to do… They missed on long runs, but they can do those in FP1 next week

Alpine have reached an agreement with Mclaren, should Daniel be unavailable.

Australian rising star Oscar Piastri is one step closer towards a dream Formula 1 debut, with the 20-year-old joining McLaren's pool of reserve drivers as an insurance policy if they require a stand-in.

Lando’s comments post-testing… Mentions that the field is bunch up according to the team, so even if they are bit behind, they will be fighting:

Read their announcement… They have made him “available”… McLaren doesn’t have to use them… Is part of a pool of drivers that include Vandoorne, De Vries and Di Resta… McLaren has an agreement in place to share reserve drivers with Mercedes… If I’m not wrong, Fittipaldi is also available (and since he is the only one out of the pool that has actually driven these cars, he would be the logical choice).

So no, McLaren hasn’t reached an agreement to use Piastri, Alpine has offered him and is available… That’s it

Funny how many have written us off already. We have alot more to come and I can't help feeling we are sandbagging quite alot. Guys like Seidl and Key are highly rated and know how to get things done. Seidl guided McLaren back to where they now from 6th and also as Porsche team principal helped them win 3 WEC manufacturers titles in a row. Key mentioned by many as the successor to Newey as the best car designer in F1. We have assembled a very good team and will get on top of this braking issue that was referred to as not a fundamental problem anyway. That time on day 1 at Barca sticks out alot with a baseline car that was nowhere near dialed in. Can't wait to shock a few of the naysayers in the next few weeks.
