Pirelli playing it safe with the hardest set of tyres from the batch?

Not only reliability but also early lap crashes, with these car being so ponderous, there will be carnage in Turn 10.
Drivers like K-Mag, Gasly, Stroll being will be wreaking havoc.
I think the front runner will be able to pull away if the rest of the field get into battles. So expect quali to be crucial, but then there is definitely going to be a VSC or even safety car.

Experience form 2021 - being much faster on quali does not mean being faster on race.

The increased ability to follow could create opportunity for those who adapt to it quicker. They will be less hesitant to brake deeper and follow through high speed to try a pass.

Gasly / Hamilton figthing / following each other in last week's test was impressive to see. In T13 cars from past years would've just slid off the road. Yet they were able to follow one another. This will be huge for race strategies.

As has been pointed out by Scarbs and others, the fastest package may not win this race.

There is going to be a huge risk/reward strategy element at play: who is willing to run low and gamble on robust design to withstand lap after lap of some porpoising? Who will be willing to opt for a slower package with less porpoising?

One thing is for sure. After this season, I'm never gonna be able to look at dolphins the same way.

I think the strategies/tactics will be fascinating. We’ve got used to a lead car dictating the pace, keeping the following car in the dirty air till they lose grip, or overheat, and then fall back a bit to preserve their tyres. Meanwhile the lead car looks to create a gap to the following pack that allows it to slot into clean air.

If the cars can follow closer without hurting tyres and the field spread is smaller these basic tactics will probably not do. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think this is being overplayed. Reliability has been at it's best in F1 and it's only getting better. Even with such 'porpoising' issues, teams completed enormous amount of mileage. Some teams even completed race sims. All this without having to go through serious damage to any part of the car. In fact with a such simplified cars in terms of appendages, the amount of carbon fibre debris in clashes would be significantly less which also means, despite some contacts, the damage may not hurt a great deal on aero performance. Drivers just need to be cautious to avoid kerbs and especially if there are sausage curbs as now the underfloor is significantly important than ever. By next week there would be some solutions for the porpoising issues, either temporary or permanent.

I wish they would further simply the floor area and remove all those cuts, curves, bends, bulges and appendages with change of rules to make the floor inline with the FIA show car.

I think Haas, Alfa Romeo are in trouble.

Mclaren, have they dealt with their brake issues?

Porpoising might damage cars throughout the race, when suddenly the car switches off.

Mclaren (Lando) said the brake temp issues are not an easy fix. But Im sure they will get there in time. [-o<

I hope the FIA clearly and decisively follows their own rules about track limits this time, instead of saying "yeah we'll just look at these few corners and for the rest whatever just drive via Narnia or so, just as long as you don't overtake there".

*mod edit - removed off topic quoted, leaving in an on topic question - as I am sure we're takling about the Bahrain track limits for this upcoming race??

In response to DChemTech - agree rules are rules, and should be appropriately punished - so why should it be left ‘open’ with no punishment?

I have heard rumours the white line will be the track limit (rightly so) so it will be good to see when race director notes are released in next couple days what is mentioned about them

**mod edit - removed off topic stuff to tidy up - leaving in the relevant items for the races
