Alpine A522

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Or the lack thereof. Seems their sidepod is mostly hollow.

Ted saying that both cars went back to old sidepods after Ocons problem as a precaution. That’s a shame. Hope it was just a matter of investigation and nothing fundamental is found.

I’m watching it live.. I saw Alonso and Ocon wearing the old side pods on run one but saw them back on at least Alonso’s car for his second time run.. the camera didn’t go on Ocons car so can’t tell if he had them or not for the second run.

looked like the black partition at the edge of the radiator got overwhelmed so that high pressure air bled past it and tore side pod away.

Cool view of the internals on track (Ocon's car, FP1 Bahrain)
What's interesting is the whole pressure section, where the air comes in through the opening of the sidepod from the front and forces air through the rad is intact. So is the new raised rib at the back. It appears that the skin along the front of the sidepod came dethatched or wasn't sealed correctly. That part didn't change from the tests

Yep 100% on his second run, on his first run I’m pretty I saw the old ones but could be wrong. I was wondering why he took so long to come back out on with almost 5 mins to go.

He didn't like his setup and changed it. He only had like 12 laps and if we remove out and in laps....that isn't alot.

He changed his setup twice. Probably will again. Lots of new parts, gonna take a while to find the setup.

They probably had a plan for both him and Ocon. Ocon's plan obviously has changed and whatever data they were gonna have Ocon gather doesn't apply to Alonso any more. So Alonso probably had to do both set of tests.

ALO looks like he likes the set up better in FP2. P5 and that’s with frickin k-mag blocking him in the last sector. I’m happy with that so far.
