Mercedes Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Just looking at the Reaction Engines website, Motorsport is one of the sectors they actively promote the use of their coolers for - https://reactionengines.co.uk/applied-t ... otorsport/
So hardly secret squirrel stuff.

This and I have a hard time believing Merc is the only one that has been able to find gains here.

After Bahrain qualifying everything looks like Mercedes PU went from hero to zero thanks to the E10 fuel rule.
Can somebody tell if there is still some engine development possible or has a full engine freeze already took place?

Maybe Im to dissapointed now... not because of the pace of 0.7 to the pole man but about the engine performance. All the Mercedes cars are horrible in the speed traps. Mclaren and Aston too. How is that posible?? Last year they had the best engine... They are behind Ferrari and Honda clearly. I cant understant it. And I dont want to understand. The engine until March 2022 was not affected by CFD and wind tunnel restrictions or by focosing to much on the 2021. Mclaren, Aston, Williams and Mercedes all have different aero design. But the result it is the same: they are slow in the speed traps. Maybe all the engine guys take by Red Bull now are showing the effect.

Almost every single employee RBR paid through the nose for, where machinist and engine builders, not engine designers/engineers.

But what's the reason then? Is it the new extremely rocket-derived technology by Reaction Engines? Are all customer teams using that or just the works team?

Maybe they just didn't find the right answer to E10 fuel in Brixworth.

It wasn't a good idea introducing engine freeze in the same year as E10 fuels off all.

No the engine is locked, no more performance gains allowed. The worst engine out there now for few years. Merc customers feeling the Ferrari vibe last year.

Is that locked in terms of engine mapping aswell?
Mess with the Bull - you get the horns.

Wow, what a bold statement after just 1 qualifying session.

No, the hybrid power train can still be updated, and no engine mappings can be changed from race to race. Just locked once they start qualy

I think the problem is the fuel.
I know the engines are locked.... But can they improve the fuel? Maybe it can bring some extra power to Mercedes
