Seriously ?
What in God's name is dangerous using these tactics at 60mph ?
It's just silly bemothering ...
This new guidance is perfect. The second driver has absolutely no business positioning himself almost at the same height as the lead car. It's just silly to give the second driver the opportunity to disturb the lead car in such a way. He's lucky enough for the gap to disappear completely due to the SC.

Yeah this was needed in Abu Dhabi where Verstappen started this.

For irate Max fans, It worked for him last race, with these rules it will probably work for him in future. It is not driver specific, Max is likely to gain more from it than he will lose. He is a cunning driver and will use it to his advantage.

If you allow it then it wont just be position 1 and 2 doing it, you could basically have the whole grid lined up side by side. Its daft.

I don't get the rule necessity either. In Bahrain Verstappen even made himself worse off, and in Jeddah Leclerc still forced him off the track so the notion that the car behind is limiting the lead car is a moot point.

I ask myself how this shall be policed. Lead driver accelerates and brakes again, car behind gets an overlap, is that a penalty already?

I think is an easy way to cut some work for race director. If second car is too close to the first car as it happen last race of last year and last race on this year calendar. They have to check cameras, etc.... when other many things on the restart can happen. On this way it is clear second car is always behind. Verstappen brought to himself as he has been pushing it to the limit and brought attention to it.

The cars have GPS sensors, so that can be done automatically I think.

It impedes the line of the lead car.
It's unfair. It's unsafe. The guy who was ten seconds behind now can create a disadvantage of the lead car even before the race restarts. Goes against the intention of a race restart.
Well, then just don't do it at all and have standing starts only ? I mean, what is the gain compared to a standing start ?
I just don't buy into the unsafe part .. it's silly and a cheap ass reason.

Tea, to me it's not about Max or anyone in particular, it's just the almost obsessive ironing out these days of about everything just for the sake of it. It's no more unsafe than any standing start or 300kmh+ passing.
It's obsessed moms behaviour that won't let their kids play in a playgrond without rubber tiles on the floor. Rules were addressed perfectly clear for ages, but still it had to be changed .. and getting tagged with an 'unsafe!' sticker.

That’s not at all when he started this - I remember him doing it in Brazil 2016. It’s more of a wonder that others didn’t start doing it tbh. But I’m pleased they’ve clarified this - they’re supposed to be lined up one behind another, not side by side.
