Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I wonder how keen an eye FIA are keeping on flex?

There is no free edge, there are two metal joints
Good spot!

It's more clear from this angle, how the elements bend forward and then join the endplate:

Very clever interpretation of the rules by Mercedes!

Waiting for cries from Horner about it going against the spirit of the rules!

I wonder how this innovation works?
Like Wolff wouldn't cry foul if Red Bull came up with the same idea.

Ironically the lack of porpoising at this track might not be what Mercedes’ want because they were meant to be trying some things to figure out what direction to go.

I haven’t spotted and floor changes other than some reinforcement.

It's not the track. It's their aero configuration. They could test their high load aero spec if they wanted to.

Yeah they ran a cautiously high ride height.

Purpoising back in early laps of FP2, unfortunately. Ride height lowered to where it was designed to be maybe 🤔

Well like Ferrari they can live with a certain amount, ie the amount they’ve had all season. Hopefully for them they can now get this level of porpoising at 3mm ride height not 6mm.

Yeah definitely the case. Definitely still playing with ride heights.

Actually looks a lot better on the soft vs the medium

Big improvement. George seems to be able to extract more from this car.

Porpoising still present though.

Can we conclude the new front wing has moved Merc forward a good step.

Yes the low DF rear wing helps but other teams have also adopted the same so it rather helped them not go backwards.

Purpoising still a problem. I’m so jealous of the RB which had virtually no purpoising even in FP2

PS anyone got a link to speed trap info?
