I love Carlos but he can't sustain this level
He's done more mistakes and DNF in 5 races than in 2021 wtf

Ferrari has been cleared of wrongdoing regarding the Imola test.

I don't know what's going on, if it's the fact that Charles is constantly ahead making him push too hard he needs to slow down start thinking podiums and build from there, it won't happen by braking a bit later in the next corner.

I don't think it's all pressure (it definitely was in Melbourne) just that he's uncomfortable with the car. He desperately needs to fix up though because he is hurting the team financially

So odd to me that they're not going to test the new wing to see how it performs in long and short runs, especially when Binotto said they were confident in the efficiency gains. 12kph slower than Red Bull on the straight is suicide. If their race pace is competitive it's almost a guaranteed loss with that speed deficit

I don’t have the top speeds from FP2, but dialtone said this over in the Miami race weekend thread:

* Speed difference is gone from FP1, all 3 cars have same top speed basically

Anyone got data to back it up either way?

The top speeds are, right before T11:
RUS: 333kmh
LEC: 334kmh
PER: 336kmh

The second straight before T17:
RUS: 325kmh
LEC: 327kmh
PER: 334kmh

Many reasons why a car might not get the same top speed in T17.

Thanks mate! Either way, I think it puts the ‘suicide’ statement from the OP to bed.

Its stupid because, for once this season, he looked faster and easier than Charles before his crash

i think that the problem Sainz has, is the oversteer of the car

Could be?

These cars are not the kind you can go fastest with by treating the steering wheel like its made of glass.

They need to be "thrown" in to corners sometimes just to get good rotation and then you need to control that rotation with your right foot through and out of the corners much more than with the previous generation of cars.

Carlos is mentally strong and clearly he has shown extreme mental capacity to drive and think of the big picture at the same time, but why is he getting these little brain farts every now and then?

Pressure of driving for Ferrari
Pressure of trying to beat Leclerc
Pressure for 1st race win
Pressure for 1st pole
Pressure not to be the number 2 at Ferrari.
Pressure to make amends for Australia and Imola.

Carlos is in an unenviable position. The best thing Ferrari could do for Sainz right now is talk Leclerc into slowing down  . Sainz needs some confidence.
