Free Crash 2 (dry):
about a dozen crashes!
1. Bastianini 1:31.148 and then promptly fell off !
2. Espargaro, Alex on the nice and capable Aprilia
3. Rins
The licorice Hondas were nowhere.
Zarco entertaining all with some MXing.
All in all not that indicative of potential race results and maybe wet for FP3 onwards.

Grand Prix de France, Le Mans, Bugatti circuit

The big Z hits top of FP3, home town influence maybe but he was bang on the money with a 1:30.537
Fabio the current world's greatest 2nd giving a benevolent tow to Master Marc Marquez on the modified but still hopeless Honda, how demeaning for him.

Rossi’s famous #46 to be retired from MotoGP

https://www.autosport.com/motogp/news/r ... 2/?nrt=112

Valentino Rossi’s famous #46 will be retired from use in MotoGP at a ceremony at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello in two weeks.

A statement from MotoGP read:
“The number 46 will be retired from use in the MotoGP class at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.
“Synonymous with nine-time world champion and MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, the number will be signed off in style at the upcoming Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley.

“The retirement ceremony will take place on the main straight on Saturday, just ahead of qualifying.

“Rossi will be in attendance as his legacy is honoured and number retired, having raced the number 46 into the MotoGP Legends Hall of Fame over 26 seasons of success – creating one of the most recognisable calling cards in global sport.”

Rossi won nine world titles across all three classes of the MotoGP world championship, including seven in the top tier,
while registering 115 GP race wins in total.

The Duke of Rimini, Enea Bastianini wins in Le Mans, pressuring the works Duke of Bagnaia into a crashing mistake.
The Townsville boy second with Espargaro, A a tremendous third.
Fabulous Fabio fourth on a completely uncompetitive Yahaha
The Hondas are still coming....somewhere
Both Yamaha and Honda should be ashamed of thenmselves with the valiant Marc Marquez even experiencing lateral porpoising.
With all the history Yamaha and Honda have in MotoGP for decades their practice of rotating engineers is proving a failure. IMHOpinion.

I find acceptable Honda's situation because they are on a new concept. So it will take time to make it work.
Yamaha are insisting i4. I think there is some benefit of it that they don't want to loose because of a few hp. Otherwise they would go vee layout. ( I am thinking in this way but I wonder why they don't test a vee even to see how they will do with it )
Quartararo was really fast but he couldn't gain position just because of lack of straight line speed. With a little bit more top speed he could fight for win. So he has a good bike without a good engine. They should find a way to close gap. May be not more power and speed but far better acceleration to tolerate lack of max speed but there must be something or they can not overtake a slower bike like we saw today.
As I said earlier every year a ducati rider come up and shines and next year he is just like other mid level riders. Bastianini rides very good this year. I wonder where he will be next year.

Bastianini's win is so important!

Not only did he manage to gain a lot of points on Quatararo, he also made Bagnaia push a lot and crash! That's a two-fold win for him! Now he's the only Ducati championship contender and he even has the 2nd Ducati seat ready for him already!

Winning this championship will instantly give Bastianini a No1 place in the Ducati family when he upgrades in 2023! All in all that was an exceptional race from and I never expected him to beat Bagnaia like that!

Just imagine! If Bastianini can beat Bagnaia on Bagnaia's good day, what can we expect from him in the future...

Additionally to my point about starring Ducati riders, maybe one year old chassis perform better or engineer/mechanics set/understand them better. If he were at same bike with bagnaia how he would perform ? And It was not Bagnaia's good day, it was ducati's good day.
I expect Quartararo to keep his title for this year.

According to a talk by Mr Simon Crafar (be careful, some of the talk is a bit misleading) in 2024 the MotoGP fuel is going 40% non fossil. Dynoing quarter engines they have only lost 1 bhp !
Take it with a grain of salt or as gospel (hoping nothing is lost in translation  )

Yamaha Motor has been commissioned by Toyota Motor Corporation to develop a 5.0-liter V8 automobile engine fueled by hydrogen. The engine is based on the 5.0-liter engine in the Lexus RC F luxury sport coupe. With modifications to its injectors, cylinder heads, intake manifold and more parts, it delivers 450 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 390 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm while running on hydrogen. “We are working toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050,” Yamaha Motor President Yoshihiro Hidaka said in a press release issued by his company. “At the same time, ‘Motor’ is in our company name, and we accordingly have a strong passion for and level of commitment to the internal combustion engine. Hydrogen engines house the potential to be carbon-neutral while keeping our passion for the internal combustion engine alive at the same time.”

In the superpole Sunday race Toprak holed his leathers (elbow) in one of the biggest saves ever (from understeer on a damp track) and went on to retake the position, very Marc Marquezesc
