I think the rules brought in was to stop reverse engineering. There is nothing to stop designers looking at a car and going through the full design process to get to the same design
Who needs 3D cameras when you have Inspector Seb.CaribouBread wrote: ↑19 May 2022, 18:53I don't think i have the complete picture on the 2020 rulings but i think those aimed to stop the usage of fancy 3d cameras and techniques like photogrammetry to 'reverse engineer' a part, don't think they can do anything about just looking at a design and copying it 'by hand' so to speak
This really puts to bed the claims that 3D cameras and scanners are the silver bullet. Never underestimate the power of a collective hive mind of engineers.CaribouBread wrote: ↑19 May 2022, 18:53I don't think i have the complete picture on the 2020 rulings but i think those aimed to stop the usage of fancy 3d cameras and techniques like photogrammetry to 'reverse engineer' a part, don't think they can do anything about just looking at a design and copying it 'by hand' so to speak
There's nothing that disallows you from building the same thing.
That's definetely the stand out feature of this new spec
