In Barcelona, Ricciardo was asked if he had already spoken to McLaren about 2023. His answer: "No, we don't. But I'm sure we'll talk before the summer break."

Ricciardo: Apparently no contract for 2023
Demand: Why do you have to speak at all if it's supposed to be a three-year contract? "That's right," Ricciardo replies, embarrassed. "You just made me answer something I shouldn't be answering. Good point."
This suggests that it may not be a straight three-year deal after all, but more of a two-year deal that may still have options for an extension. For outsiders, this is pure speculation at this point in time.
Brown compares the situation at McLaren with that at Red Bull, where Max Verstappen is the clear number 1, and Ferrari, where Carlos Sainz has been at a disadvantage against Charles Leclerc in 2022: "There are these gaps between teammates. Lando is one of the best drivers the world. It speaks for him too and shows how good he is when you see the distance."
