McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The rear end of the MCL monocoque has a peculiar monolithic shape. Mclaren has pushed its coolers so far forward and do not really need those big radiator recesses that some other tubs have...

A very nice video further explaining what the steps in the floor are doing.

New rear wing end plate?
Not seen it before on the Mclaren or on anything else for that matter?
Just a fan's point of view

Kyle has analyzed the underfloor of the RB18 including the steps in the keel common to both the RB and McLaren.

Skip to 17:15 for the information about the multi-step diffuser kicks which is most relevant to the McLaren

I was watching some onboards and the engine sounded very slow. I don’t think even ever pushed this session.

Looking at the McLaren app throughout the session, it seemed like they did a lot of high fuel running.

Lando definitely had the new sidepods, maybe Daniel had the old to compare.

You are correct, Lando indeed did have it. Commentators also mentioned they were running different floors.

Don't know about that but they'll probably run the old PU in FP1 and 2 until it dies.
