Mclaren have brought a lower downforce RW to this event and a front wing to balance, suggesting that the need to load the wings with downforce to make up for the floor is possibly a little exaggerated.

The team also brought a new engine cover for BAKUs cooling requirements.

Everybody is saying that the merc Pu is fine and yet (apart from Lewis who had a massive tow) the last 5 cars are all Mercedes powered

Merc engines traditionally run very low power modes during FP sessions. Wonder if the HP loss is higher on their units over its lifespan and hence the more conservative running.

Considering that that was the exact case last year , that could be very true
Last year Honda had a slightly lower peak output compared to the Mercedes but lasted longer

I do trust the lack of pace. I expect something similar to Miami. Might have enough pace to get into the points, but not expecting much more than that. This car is just not good on the straights.

Well know for sure tomorrow but early signs are a little worrying for the Merc PU after a promising Barcelona weekend.

I’m surprised with our design that we are draggy- we’re the one far that resembles a bit of last years coke bottle rear.

Frustrating for sure to not have carried forward good straight line speed.

Eyeballing it is probably the wrong approach. Visually speaking you would guess Ferrari might have been one of the draggier cars this year, but it's actually the opposite.

Difficult to see why this concept is draggy. But based on those speed charts, it's honestly somewhat concerning. It was over 20kph of a difference and that's hugely significant in itself. Add to that potential power unit deficiencies (which means weaker deployment), it honestly wouldn't be surprising if this is pretty much the only huge weakness of this car.

If I had to guess it would be a combination of the T tray channel that pushes air up to the front the of the sidepods and then to the very flat fronted sidepods that push the airflow aggressively out over the floor sideways. These flat/bluff forward facing large areas of bodywork will create high pressure zones in front of them creating fairly high levels of drag.

Whether that's enough to really effect the car I don't know as obviously I haven't run it in CFD and I don't have "CFD eyes" like some people here have
