VER v SAI
- From speed into T1, and back straight it seem RBR is running a bit less downforce, particularly in the front. At this point this shouldn't be surprising, RBR runs their car a bit more understeery, just slightly, which protects rear tyres in the race.
- Sainz takes braking into T8, T10 and T13 easier than VER. This is actually going to be the same for LEC and PER actually.
VER v LEC
- Same features of the Sainz lap are here, however they are aggravated by a very old soft tyre with 12 laps on it according to telemetry.
VER v PER
- This is carbon copy to the ones before, except PER and VER appear to be running very similar setup.
Since this session ended at the same time as when the race starts, and because FP2 could be wet, most teams ended up doing race sims.
Top 4 race sim cut off time at 80s
- I believe the tyre age for just about everyone is off in the legend on the top left, everyone started of 3-4 lap old mediums or new mediums, not sure why the telemetry showed Sainz on 17 lap old Mediums for example.
- Perez and Leclerc started at about the same time, and so did Sainz and Verstappen a bit later.
- Leclerc on the onboard mentioned that his tyres were done, and then proceeded to place a further faster lap than what he did 4-5 laps earlier in the high 1.18s. Quite a bit of traffic in Leclerc's simulation, not so much at the first few laps but afterwards there was a lot more and had to skip a time for 3 laps.
- Looks like Perez is just a bit slower overall in race pace, while the other 3 are pretty close to one another with Sainz able to overcome Verstappen's pace at the end of his race sim by quite a margin.
Teams with a race sim, 85s cut off
- Well by the looks of it Alonso is going to lap the field. Just kidding of course, he's probably doing a 2nd stint, but overall looks very decent for Alpine although hard to say the comparison.
- Across the rest of the field it doesn't seem to look to good for Merc right now at about the same level as Daniel Ricciardo who has impressive consistency with his McLaren.
- Very impressive is Vettel who is lapping very close to the top teams.
- Hard to see them in there but Magnussen also looks quite good, except his race sim was very short.
- Gasly and his Alpha Tauri also quite impressive, just slightly slower than Vettel but very close to the top teams as well.
Well this is a very different race sim than in Baku, every team seems to be very close to one another although of course the setup work is just started and these are unlikely to be the true values at the end of the day.
