All packages are high downforce packages for this car at the moment. The drag is pretty bad.
At Baku they had a lower DF rear wing and a front wing that would balance with it, the drag is not related to the wings.
Of course the drag is related to the wings. Bigger wings will equal more drag. Sounds like you're just referring to the balance of the car.
All cars have drag. "The drag" is not drag in general, "the drag" we refer to when we talk about the Mclaren for the past 2 months is the exceptional drag which causes the car to be a dog on the straights, apologies I thought this was clear.

The statement that we have only run high DF packages was not true as Baku had low DF wings. This did not stop the car being awful in a straight line therefore "The drag" is not caused by any need to run high DF wings.

In fact the car is pretty handy in corners.

Weight comes into effect also with McLaren being rumoured at the heavier side of the scale combination of excess weight and drag gives you the majority of that deficit the team knows this and will most likely have new parts in the pipeline in time, they will get it right the car itself is a decent package it’s good in slow/medium speed corners which was one thing the team aimed to fix. There is still a very long way to go till Abu Dhabi, patience rewards

My personal opinion is that the outwash from the floor and elsewhere is not being dealt with efficiently.

Do you know the weights of the cars?

MCL36's weight is not a problem...

That’s a incredibly basic explanation of it, yes Wings do create drag, bug what where actually discussing here Is far more complex aerodynamic drag from sidepods, underfloor flow, vortices and many more things. Wings are the least of It currently.

What's the gearing like on the McLaren? Perhaps that also explains part of why the top speed is lower than some other teams
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

The fact that the car is good in the corners but slow in the straights on typical low downforce tracks seems to indicate that the team can afford to use even smaller wings to bias lap time generated on straights instead of corners. This leads me to believe that they aren't doing it for another reason, the most likely coming to mind is tyre wear. Maybe they've discovered that tyre wear on their car goes up drastically with reduced downforce.

Daniel is looking to be having one of his decent weekends where he's there or there abouts Lando's pace. Let's hope he can carry this into quali when it matters and extract those last few tenths (luck permitting). Might be a turning point (though we've of course been here before).

I think the team have setup the car for tomorrows presumably dry race and are struggling to fire up the tyres, that was a close one.

The biggest challenge in these conditions is with ride height… With how sensitive these cars are to it, the fact that the wet tires increase ride height due to the tread on the wheels makes things a bit more complicated if you are considering how you are going to run on the dry… If you drop the car to get performance with the wet tires, you may simply be too low with dry tires

Hopefully both drivers can get to Q3 and then everything is up for grabs. It's obvious though that the Drag of the car is Huge and needs to be solved immediately if we want to be more competitive.
