Someone has to have the balls to go for a slicks run at the end!
Too much balls from Russell mate, it was still fairly wet in S1.
Yeah, had he cleared that first corners and the last he probably had enough dry to give them a good go. Instead he wrote his rear wing off
The track never looked ready for slicks, he was lucky the damage was minimal. George is a lucky boy.

Was it minimal? Looked like a new rear wing required to me. With a good shove in the rear it is also possible there could be drive train damage. I hope not, have you heard anything or just going by 'the look of it'?
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

definitely knocked the ERS lights off and a few odd strands of carbon. Wont be any damage though given the speed he hit the wall

Just tapped it.

FairPlay to go for the slicks. I expected it would be too hard, there was still sooo much water.

Heart racing. Great qualy.

Best quali in a while

Alonso is a beast

With the amount of standing water, that slick risk was never going to work out for George

Sainz often has mistakes when the biggest prizes are on offer?

Enjoyed that qualifying a lot hats off to Fernando who is owning Ocon and I rate Ocon as a good driver too

Red Bull looked the bes car throughout qualy, no surprise Mac cruised to pole, Sainz seems a bit of a bottler this season should have been P2 minimum

Mercedes ran different wings, Lewis on a low DF wing did well and should have a strong race car. Applaud George for having a go on slicks just that pesky first turn.

Haas team bravo both did excellent too

What happened to AS pace Vettel usually runs well here!

Running in FP3 could have prevented Perez his crash in qualifying. Serves them right..

well, in Sainz defense, did anyone notice how much his helmet bounced there before last chicane?
I know I'm probably boring but am afraid he choked... Again.

OK I knew he wouldn't get a pole. In dry he isn't as fast as Verstappen, let alone wet.. But P2 was for grabs easy.

If he doesn't clear Alonso at the start he will get stuck behind and it is another easy win for Max..
I hope Alonso had a setup for wet more than for dry, that could hurt their performance on straights.
He said he lost half a second in the last sector and I think in this case it was worth a punt as Max was clearly the fastest package today. Would Charles have been closer? Who knows.

With any luck Fernando sends it into turn 1 and then Carlos and Max can have a straight race in the dry; I suspect the Ferrari is closer to Max’s pace in the dry and Fernando may be hard to pass in a straight line. If that bunches things up a bit and Checo and Charles are coming through the pack it could be a fun race. If Max gets away with Fernando behind (and presuming no SCs) I think that’s game over.

Yeah, if he crashed in FP3 and mechanics couldn't repair his car in time, he wouldn't crash in qualifying.

Running in FP3 didn’t work out for Aston Martin, did work out for Max though. That Redbull is definitely not 1.6s faster than Mercedes so good job from him.
Alonso amazing as usual.
Both Haas did great and Magnussen was a tenth off Hamilton.
Good effort from Zhou, Bottas has always been below average in wet.
The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.

Ferrari must find a way to meddle with Max. Perez is out of play, now it's about who do you sacrifice to block Max? Charles or Carlos? Can Mick play any part in this? hmm.

I think the situation will be quite opposite, RB will deploy Perez to block Lec, meanwhile Max will disappear because no car at the front doesn't have the pace to hamper his progress.

Just shows how good those Mercedes cars were in the previous years, even in wet! Rain equalizes and brings opportunities and Fred is a great example of it.

Good risk there by George, didn't manage it completely. We couldn't see what was the final potential of the Mercedes against Max in those conditions. A sure top 3 was on cards for George if he would have gone conservative with Inters.
