Small RW + big BW vs Big RW + small BW
Nice comparison.Blackout wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 15:12Small RW + big BW vs Big RW + small BW

Do you think running higher AoA beam wing has any effect on cooling? They've really shrunk the rear opening since winter testing.Blackout wrote: ↑21 Jun 2022, 15:12Small RW + big BW vs Big RW + small BW

Good question. I dunno. I guess the high AOA beam wing, and the new top beam wing, will upwash that airflow better towards the low pressure zone that is below the RW, and that should improve that hot air extraction...peewon wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022, 00:57Do you think running higher AoA beam wing has any effect on cooling? Alpine tested something else in FP1, inside the gap between the wheel and its deflector (blue)
Interestingly, Alpine seems to be the only team that only uses an air scoop for the rear brakes cooling, while the others either only use an inlet in the gap, or scoop + gap (Alfa, RB)
My Guess would be extra cooling for braking in Montreal.
That's a Gurney Flap on the bottom beam wing edge? Isn't it?Blackout wrote: ↑18 Jun 2022, 00:24As predicted in Baku, Alpine tilted the new beam wings & put them at a higher angle of attack
These Alpine lego parts are v. useful. They can test & race many beam/endplates/wings combinations fast & cheaper.
So they tested the AUS RW with 2 or even 3 beam wing versions today

Difficult to read much from sparks because they have far more mass than air.Blackout wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022, 18:03viewtopic.php?p=1057796#p1057796

That white stuff is probably foam to see how much the tire deforms on track...
Maybe they'll alter that wheel deflector later to make the whole assembly more streamlined
Or maybe they will open a cooling inlet in that blanc space and fully/partly remove the scope, which should bring more air to the wheel winglets
Or maybe they were just testing tire deformation
