Mercedes W13

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'd say consistent setting of purple sectors and topping quali sessions after being down 1s per lap at some points is some serious progress imo.

Pushing for the win just a week before is very encouraging too.

Id say theyve done the long distance improvements already, it's just the finer details in the last stretch of road they need to cover imo.
I feel they are getting close to unlocking the car's potential.. the car is very competitive in straight line speed now with ferrari and red bull

The car maybe feels like it has the grip available to push, and then it gives up the grip if there is a shift in the load on the axles. Seems like this car has a narrow window, and it could be stemming from the stiff suspension.

Lewis did at times look like he could threaten for pole, but may this kind driving isn't sustainable. The car has a long way to go yet.
Good comment. Lewis backed out of several runs and it looked like there was a very narrow window. Both of the crashes seem to confirm that. Looks like running on a knife edge.

A few posts that amounted to lap times or likely finishing positions, or speeds in a concrete event which affected track position, have been removed. I probably don't need to remind of the car thread posting guidance.

Huh, so hami is at a disadvantage already due to a 'hybrid' floor instead of the latest spec?

Maybe that latest "new" spec is "old" and new one is development in the direction next new would be like "new.1"?

Impossible. He'd start from the back if the floors are not identical.

That suggests a suspension issue (possibly due to a lack of travel?).
The floor is stalling mid-corner, according to Peter Windsor (and only on low/qualy setup I dare to add), due to a raised car at the back and that could be either in order to prevent bottoming or maybe, most probably, in a prospect of a wet race tomorrow:
