Ham was immediately fast when he finally left the pits... was 0.18 off the pace after s2 on his first hotlap before taking it easier for s3

His aggressive style still causes rancour with many, however, and last season battle lines were firmly drawn between his and Hamilton’s fans. After Abu Dhabi much of their interaction turned toxic. Last year after Silverstone Hamilton was booed at some tracks by Verstappen fans and this year some of Hamilton’s returned the favour at the British GP. In Austria there will be a huge Dutch contingent but Verstappen was dismissive of the extremes of supporters.

“Those people are not really F1 fans,” Verstappen says. “They cannot really enjoy what is actually happening right now, a lot of great drivers actually fighting against each other. But they cannot appreciate that and that’s a bit of a shame. How many times do you get to experience stuff like that? Such an intense rivalry or fights. These people are not lovers of the sport.”

I hate this schedule (especially sessions 30 mins after hour), every race each session has different starting tim. I'm missing old days when fp1&3 starts at 10am and fp3,q and race at 2pm.

Aye, no idea what the start times for the sessions are now, it’s crap.

Not the best way to represent this data to compare laptimes with, but here you go. Not my own creation

New spec wing for Russell.

Judging by the rules, they will have had to run that same spec one in FP1 on Friday? (Unless it’s previously run in the season, but doesn’t specifically mention)

Presumably, FIA approval required for this too.

There must be some rules for this somewhere? Otherwise we would see teams changing things between quali and the sprint.

Anyone got any clarifications?

Sporting regs 40.3 for George as pointed out by Fabrega and the rule allowing changes to the cooling is 40.2 m) but it requires a change in climatic conditions ... and turns out i was wrong and Merc really just had the Silverstone wing two times and repaired one of them (Lewis' looked largely intact) or had three ...

From reading the regs you would need a ‘change of climatic conditions’ declared by the FIA.

I think the tweet you replied to implies that they opened up cooling at Austria relative to Silverstone, not talking about fp2 Vs quali etc

I doubt ... last GP on F1 TV they where saying that cooling openings are between things that can be changed when there is a red flag, so I presume they can be changed also in parc fermé.

At the end of the day, both Merc drivers went out because they asked too much of the car.

...
It seems that both accidents were due to a raised car at the back and that could both prevent bottoming and a prospect of a wet race tomorrow ...

The raised back floor forced the car to stall mid-corner, according to Peter Windsor (and only on a low/qualy setup I dare to add):
