It reinforce the theory that this car is the sister of the SF1000/SF21, it was build anticipating a powerful engine, but Mercedes didn't deliver this time.
On this track it will the natural qualities of the car are shining.

Interesting that RIC reports that he can’t go quicker. But the team wall says, opportunities in braking for T6 and T12. 0.2s behind NOR is encouraging though. Seemingly still a tad uncomfortable in the characteristics of the car. Car looks good though. Draggy but it does have impressive DF in full DF kit
Lando should also have a bit more in that lap because he ran quite wide in the final corner.
And had traffic in the middle sector

In the analysis between Lando and Charles fastest laps, it was suggested that the Mclaren was running a higher engine mode.

Either way we feel competitive even if we end up not so close to the Ferraris.

Let's see what FP3 and Q1 have in store for us first.

Doesn't make much sense why they would do this, but oh well.

Realistically I am not expecting them to beat RedBull anyway.

Is Will phasing out as Lando's engineer?

Will was there last week during quali, but not for race anymore. This week I'm hearing Jose again, so I'm not sure what's up with Will. Last week noone knew why he was not present during the race.

He may be dealing with some personal stuff… Nothing indicates that he won’t be back

Looking very good. Seems like the updates from the French GP are working well. As they are now understanding the updates better they can unlock more performance. I expect Ferrari and Red Bull to be ahead this weekend, but let’s hope this gives us just enough of an edge to keep Alpine behind in the championship. But for that we’ll need Ricciardo to perform too.

They’re still a fair bit off in S2 and on race pace though. Let’s not celebrate too early. But looks like best of the rest in quali. Then Merc on our tail all race. Barring weather troubles

Mclaren had explained that Will was required to leave for personal reasons and has not been able to return yet, so there's something more important for him to be able to deal with at home.

Not turned right up, still detuned, just less detuned than Ferrari in the example that they showed on screen.

Very interesting from the laps, see no indication of higher engine modes… Lando managing to be up all the way until Turn 7… Losing time there and in T11… But very decent lap

Thanks. Yeah sure, totally understandable. I was not thinking anything else.
