Otmar turned alpine from a promising team, into Force India 2.0.
a mediocre team that will be for years a mediocre midfield team...

This is very bad for alpine...

prost out

You don’t know. No one knows. In my opinion this works for both teams.

Alpine’s crazy management structure is being simplified and they solve the Piastri problem. Alonso gets his 2 year deal and Aston gets another WDC winning driver.

I am not happy with Alonso going to Aston but also not too sad. As I said before Alpine will not become top 3 team for next 10 years. They are in F1 to just make up numbers. Aston on other end may become top team in few years but by that time Alonso would have retired. Coming to ocon after today he will see a different Alonso , the one he will not prefer to see . I am sure Alonso will do enough to destroy his reputation before he leaves team. For Alonso I don't think it matters Aston or Alpine as long as he is not in a top 2 team car. He just want to have fun and race.

Yeah Aston has the big investment, the new wind-tunnel and Dan fallows helming. They do have more potential which I think Alonso found attractive.

Well, this is quite a shocker today.

When reading about Alonso potentially extending his contract for 2023 (then leaving to other series) a while ago, I was skeptical about it - as spaniard is still so quick & motivated. Surely he would get a chance to extend, I thought. Apparently not. His desire to stay in f1 longer was probably the main factor.

Too bad, as Alpine is showing improvements. They are well in the 4th spot in constructors championship and here he can at least fight for good points, possibly a podium if he gets a lucky chance (like once last year). AM will have to deliver serious improvements to match this team. I really hope it doesn't end up being another bad career decision for Fernando.

This Piastri guy must be seriously quick, if so much focus is on him. Then again, there was lots of talking about Vandoorne as well, and we all know how that ended...

So El Plan was about piastri all along and they got alonso to market it. Very clever (sarcasm intended)

I’m probably in the minority but I think this time Fernando has made a good decision.

They may not look it right now, but Aston are on the up in a big way and that will begin to bear fruit over the next couple of seasons.

Alpine clearly we’re compromising to fit Piastri in and are already tied to Ocon, so Alonso has rightfully gone and got the 2/3 year deal he deserves and wants, at a team where this is now considerable talent in the ranks. I’m super excited to see what Dan Fallows can do.

It kinda suits all parties and whilst there is a chance of Alpine designing a strong challenger next season, i don’t think it is much if any higher than that of Aston Martin designing a strong car, so it’s a sound decision IMO.

People saying it’s for money are miles off the mark.
Very good comment. People can say what they want but Stroll Senior is very serious about building a winning F1 Team. And don’t forget that Daddy Stroll is a serious business man who is printing money left and right because he knows how to build a successful business.

And all the people who think that Alonso is leaving Alpine for Strolls money forget that Alonso has a net worth of 250 Million $. Alonso wants to be in F1 for the next 2-3 years. Alpine thought they could play stupid games with Fernando and now they got what they deserve.

Maybe Piastri is the real deal. If that’s the case we will see even worse behavior on the track from Ocon. In this scenario it will be interesting to see how the „French“ team will hold back their French superstar.

The main building will be complete by late 2022 early 2023 and the wind tunnel after summer break next year according to F1.com

So unless Alonso signed for 3-years, will be of very little benefit to him. Unless their first car out of the gate in the new tunnel is a great one.

Yeah and that article was from September last year when there was still some doubts about covid so the timeline could be looking even better nearly a year later.

Alonso leaving is a sign that Alpine will be a very good car next year.
Alonso's luck is that every time he moves from a team the car gets better.
Alpine have a good car, the engine is new but seems reliable and powerful enough.
The enstone guys make good chassis.
Alonso may be leaving at the wrong time.
I see Apline as a better tem than Aston Martin now and a better team next year
For Sure!!
