Max quickest after Friday practice at Spa: 'Car feels good'

Max Verstappen clocked the quickest time in Friday practice after topping the timing sheets in FP2. The Oracle Red Bull Racing driver was quickest around Spa-Francorchamps ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and McLaren’s Lando Norris.

“I was happy with the car today. As soon as I got out on track, the car worked well. We only fine-tuned the balance so that was positive”, reflected Max, who will start Sunday’s Grand Prix from the back of the grid due to an engine penalty.

Friday practice finished with rain in the latter stages of FP2. “When it started raining, I couldn’t push. Of course, I would’ve wanted to do more laps, everybody wants that. But so far so good. Today meant to be the worst day weatherwise, so we should have dry conditions for the remainder of the weekend.”

In tenth place behind Daniel Ricciardo was Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull. The penalties for Verstappen and Leclerc make the Mexican one of the favorites. The weak position on Friday was not meaningful, as team boss Christian Horner explained: "We had a problem with the hydraulic pressure in the DRS. Until we solved that, it started to drizzle slightly. That's why his time is not representative."

It’s always reassuring when max says he’s happy with the car. You know it’s going to be a good weekend ahead.

Not so fast. I'm also all too familiar with the balance disappearing on Saturday inexplicably.

True. However quite usually when max says he feels happy in the car he’s getting good results. Knowing it’s only practice at present, max will know what he’s holding back for quali

Rise in temperatures could play a hand.

Is there any more detail on the new chassis? Is it light weight, what it's worth?

It almost certainly will and if they don't stay on top of it, we will hear the all too familiar understeer radio messages.

Yes, they did. Why else would they take a new PU this weekend?!
.
.
So Red Bull has good reasons for optimism, despite the Verstappen penalty. This should also be the last, Marko hopes:
"Theoretically, that should be enough." For the remaining races, Red Bull plans to get by with the engines already used at Verstappen.

Well the only info we have from people on the ground (Erik van Haren) is they will take new components but that there is no Honda ERS upgrade.

That is not correct. He got a new ES but is was his 2e so no penalty.

Still think Ver is (capable of) an easy 0.5 quicker lap than Per in Q tho.
The car indeed seems on rails ..
