Red Bull RB18

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Expecting Red Bull to come with basically flat rear-wing.

Spa wing trimmed on Perez's car

Max even has the Spa wing untrimmed on the car

Presumably they'll run them back to back on Friday to see which gives the best lap time / tyre deg compromise. It's not unusual and the extra wing means more speed through the Lesmos and the fast Ascari chicane can be enough to hold off a lower drag set up. And with the RB18 already being quick in a straight line, that could well be a winning set up.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Or Checo will take a bunch of new components this weekend and they trim his car to low downforce, while Max is running a optimized lap time setup.

Yes would not surprise me if Checo has to cut through the field after taking engine penalties, especially with damaged 3rd engine at Zandvoort

Which I wouldn't understand. It is the same DRS flap (only trimmed), so with DRS open it doesn't make any difference in top speed. I would rather have more DF to have an higher entry speed onto the straights coming out of corner and also better ability to follow.

Agree. Only when defending the trimmed DRS flap makes sense, when attacking the non-trimmed version makes more sense (assuming similar laptime when not using DRS)

Max's wing does 340km/h when the DRS is open. It doesn't get much quicker than that for these cars.

The sims are probably telling them Max's wing is the quicker one in qualifying, which is why they are bothering at all.

If you can have competitive top speed and some good downforce too, then that's a no brainer for them. It's worked in the past.

I expect them both to end up with the trimmed rear wing by Saturday.

I want them to use the trimmed wing out of curiosity. Probably don't need it but it will be interesting.

340 kmh is spa wing level.

Yes. And that is the wing that Max has on his car this weekend.
