McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Hmm, I can't even imagine how such a size could be useful. Is that the creation of some kind of useful whirlwind.
You need large rear view mirrors to be able to see 19 cars behind you when you're constantly in front.
Why is McLaren testing them then?? :D =P~

A nice view on MCL's brake ducting. So they are using a duct (green) to suck hot air as soon as they exit the disc radial holes, and vent it from the blue outlet, while other cars dont have a dedicated duct, just a channel (which becomes a duct when the cake tin is mounted on (like these older Merc/RP brakes below)

Or back-to-back?
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

The tray is much thicker on the Mclaren than the other teams...is it for structural integrity?...because the front bib out washing concept seems to really load that tray into ground. I would think keeping it as thin as possible would increase the total volume of airflow entry into the venturi's...

They probably either have more ballast or some other gibbins in there.

They are one of the few if not only teams with a bib. Most others have bodywork directly above this area shaped like a bow.
