Anyone got Lando's overtakes?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

After the last safety car there were 31 laps left to race. Ricciardo finished over 36 seconds behind Norris, making him over a second per lap slower in race pace. On the same strategy. Ouch.

We now sit just 6 points behind Alpine.

What a race from Lando, was he conserving fuel or tyres earlier in the race?

I didn't get to watch much unfortunately, but where was this pace earlier?

No, they just had a good strategy, whilst others crashed out

Lando pitted twice, and managed to put that to good use at the end of the race with a tyre advantage over Alonso, Magnasun and Gasley, who all tried a 1 stop

The usual remark when trying to defend Daniel is "He hasn't forgotten how to drive". Well, maybe he has? But seriously, Daniel seems stuck in his ways, either he's just refusing to adapt and change his driving style, or he simply can't. Whichever is the case, it's not doing his reputation any good.
He bagged 2 places on the opening lap but couldn’t get consistent pace out of the car. Lando might be making the car look good, but it still isn’t a good car!

Heck it seemed to be faster after Lando sustained damage! 🤦‍♂️

No one says its a good car. Its an OK car. But its good enough to qualify top 10 regularly and it's certainly good enough to not be second last on the track.

Yeah that's what we need to accept at this point.

Either this Daniel is not the same Daniel we have had before, or Lando has to be the god of our generation.

And don't get me wrong, Lando is good. Really good. But he can't be multiple tenths quicker than the likes of Leclerc, Hamilton and Verstappen ...

Mclaren’s are a “weird car” if you ask Carlos who has driven other F1 cars.

Yeah, I agree. It's pathetic to cling to a driver like this based on comments made by someone who drove a completely different car two years ago.

Yet, both Norris and Sainz were able to finish in the points regularly. Earlier you implied the odd car characteristics/traits have been there for a couple of seasons. I don't disagree with that. What I fail to see is how that should be a reason for Ricciardo to not deliver. Two out of three drivers could drive with or around those car traits and score valueble points. Just one can not. So what factor of the difference to Norris is down to the car (characteristics) and what factor is down to the driver?

I really hope Mclaren can produce Lando a car, can’t help but feel his talent is being wasted…the likes of Fernando and Lando are wasted in the midfield, watching their onboards especially at low fuel, they are always levels above…

It’s amazing how Ricciardo thinks he will have options for f1 drive come 2024. He should be begging for a Haas drive next year to stay somewhat relevant

RedBull clearly still believe in him, he’ll be their reserve driver next year and will likely replace Perez when he retires at the end of ‘23 (he’s said he’s unhappy with the expanded F1 calendar and has a very young family).
