Yes - a fairytale indeed.

A German company has dismantled one turbine and plans to take down two more to access a coal deposit. This arrangement was part of the original agreement when the wind farm was built.
One of the turbines was already torn down last week, with the same fate awaiting two more over the course of 2023. According to the wind farm operator, Energiekontor, the remaining five aging turbines could also be gone by the end of next year, with their operational permit nearing its expiration date.

Meanwhile Germany continues to install wind capacity at a rate of about 1 GW per year - equivalent to more than 500 of the turbines being torn down.
How much will that matter when they all freeze to death THIS winter?🤔

They should have not shut down their nuclear plants whimsically. The riots are beginning, so we will see how long the fairytale lasts. Sadly, with the Netherlands and Australia targeting farmers, this winters survivors will only find starvation in the next summer.😪

The Netherlands targetting farmers? What kind of news do you watch?
I live in the Netherlands and I've never seen a single group that's gets as much leeway as farmers. For many, many years they were allowed to freely pollute through deliberately constructed regulation loopholes that were known to never hold up in court, and now that court has ruled they have to rightfully reduce pollution, they are blocking highways, threatening politicians and burning stuff every time someone suggests an actual concrete measure or timeline. The Netherlands is not targetting farmers - farmers are targetting the Netherlands.

I wonder what information source you use. Must be some weird stuff.

There are no riots and not one person I know has had to turn on the heating in october because it has been over 20 degrees celsius here during the day for the last few weeks. The total gas storage level in Germany currently is at 98.52%. Also we have "Doppel-Wumms", a 200 billion "defensive shield" to get people and businesses in Germany safely through the winter. Alongside the electricity price cap, there will also be a gas price cap.

Keeping an eye on the positives, a fairly general video of Bill Gates shows a conference where some deals and networking occurred.
Yes, some of this is BS but the majority are people trying to make a difference

I give the EV enthusiasm craze until about 2027 (same with net zero). I expect sales will be about 30-40% of the market, and stay at around that.
I think it will go much further than that ( But I do drive electric so I am opinionated on this one)

Firstly things get adopted because they make sense, politics might want something write white papers and throw subsidies at it, but in the long run, if it does not make sense policies get reversed and politicians replaced. So either electric gets adopted or not. Politics might be able to influence the rate of adoption but not the fundamentals.

For the degree of market penetration. I think we see petrol cars for a long time next to EV’s but in the end I don’t think it will be 60:40 or something along those lines.

The key is in the infrastructure. The current amount of EV’s are already causing gas stations to close imagine what a 30-40% loss of revenue will do. An even split will represent the worst of both worlds where there neither the petrol or the electric infrastructure will offer sufficient coverage for users and profitability for the owners. Petrol is a lot less appealing when you have to drive 20 miles to get it as is electric if you don’t have a charger nearby.

So long term either electric will marginalize petrol or it stay marginal itself, I don’t think there is an inbetween because no one wants to pay the price for double infrastructure.

Norway:
Almost sixty-five percent of new passenger cars sold in Norway in 2021 were electric; in addition, 22% were plug-in hybrids. Put differently, only 14% of new cars were sold without a plug.

Norway is a bit of a special case. They can afford to build massive electrical infrastructure subsidised by the sale of fossil fuels. And they have lots of hydro.

True, but it is also choices and leadership.
Many countries have similar or equivalent resources but view such matters as cost whereas progressive entities view the same matters as investment with a long term view.

They were clever in setting up their oil fund, too. Where countries like the UK used oil revenues to simply cut taxes (and thus buy votes for the incumbent politicians), Norway decided to use the revenue to invest for the long term benefit of the country. The fund is worth about £1.3trillion and holds about 1.5% of all shares listed in the world, so not a bad little idea. So in the current period where many economies are having problems thanks to Ukraine and other factors, the Norwegian Government has real money to fall back on rather than ever more Government debt.

Singapore is a case in point too.
To mitigate the heat island effect they will have no combustion engines in the heat concentrate areas.
Hopefully there will be one exception a year

Ironically their electricity comes from natural gas combustion at the moment. As part of their transition they will set up a giant solar farm on an ex cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia and cable the electrons back home!

Singapore - Australian company Sun Cable:
14th March 2022
"...The $30bn plan to build a giant solar farm in northern Australia to power Darwin, Indonesia and Singapore has moved a step closer to reality with billionaires Mike Cannon-Brookes and Andrew Forrest contributing to a $210m capital raising.

The investment brings to about $250m the money raised to build a 17-gigawatt solar plant on a cattle property at Newcastle Waters, midway between Alice Springs and the Northern Territory’s capital.

The project would be a 12,000 hectare solar precinct with 17-20 GW solar generation and 36-42 GWh energy storage to enable 24/7 dispatchable electricity near Elliott, in the Northern Territory..."

It also has a tiny population (5.4 m) and a land area half as much again as UK.
Never been there, but assume it is much easier to arrange charging? My 'gut instinct' is most cars would be garaged overnight anyway (Or not?)

From this video, the use of vegetation for cooling has another use.
It is a mitigation method that both offsets carbon producing oxygen and traps and filters particulates. On some plants the trapped particulates are consumed for want of a better word.
And in other instances the particulates are washed off to a controlled system providing in effect a filter system. Both reduce the particulates that cause health problems. These methods are used in other countries and is a post-vehicle emission control method.

Those numbers are... Strange.

For 17-20 GW, you only need about 3000-4000 hectares. What's with the extra 8000? Australia isn't densely populated but land cant just be free or unoccupied. Surely there's an environment opportunity cost here

Next, if they're paying 30 billion Aussie dollars, that would mean that they're paying 750-1000 bucks per square meter of solar panel, which translates to about 700 watts of peak power generation (with really high tech panels). But the retail price of solar panels is about 40 bucks. The rest of the money must be going somewhere else but... Where?

Finally. Why on earth would you have three times more storage capacity than generation? That is nuts. Are they using batteries or mechanical storage? If they're using mechanical storage like say a water reservoir, that would explain the massive amount of space and money involved. But at that point someone has to ask, what is the environmental opportunity cost?
