I heard the commentators say making the softs last for sprint quali was marginal. Can't remember if that was Pirelli or the teams they were quoting though.
Judging by RB soft run in fp1, it would be fairly easy to make the softs last. Think that's what most of the top 10 will have if it's not wet

Max did quali sims and then a 10 lap stint on the same set of softs and the deg was low

F1 really needs a indycar style Quali red flag rule, where if you cause a red, you loose your 2 quickest times
I agree that there should be a penalty for red flagging a session, but if they take the 2 quickest times from a qualifying session (which usually only has 2 quick runs per se) you would end up sending the driver to the back of the grid almost automatically… A little harsh in my opinion

Just because RB can doesn't mean anyone else can. They have a car that is a class apart and very good on its tyres.

he lost quite a bit in the end (around 1s, including the fuel factor)

As you say, tyres were used (6 laps) when they started their longrun, so they'll probably still be an option for 24 laps - but not prefered choice for most, I guess.

This is good news, which I think we saw coming after the secret test. Alpine releases Piastri early.

Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Good news then for Piastri, didn’t McLaren already confirm Pato for the young driver test though?, or can you run 2 cars?
AFAIK one car was for young drivers and one was for a tyre test

That may seem harsh but if done like in indycar it isn’t actually too bad, it doesn’t drop you to the back of the grid, just to the back of your session, I.e now Russell would be starting tenth.

I think Pato was confirmed for the FP1 outing, not the post Abu Dhabi young driver test.

Seidl said it was a "Settlement agreement" so it sounds like Mclaren paid Alpine to release him. I would not have expected anything less.

As long as Alpine paid (pay off) Alpha Tauri to have Gasly early then it’s just fair game

The Abu Dhabi test? I know who AMR are running... Alpine will be running Gasley, AMR Alonso and McLaren Piastri...Wouldn't call it a young drivers test.

yeah the sprint race just kind off sorts out whatever mismatch's there were in qualifying, front runners have a easy 1 sec a lap advantage

This is the exact reason, we shouldn’t have the sprint set Sunday’s grid, nice job of getting rid of any suspense or interest in Sunday’s race
