Brake Checks and Blocks done for spite

Post

It seems it's OK now to peer back into the past to argue over past "mistakes" that were likley not accidental but done on purpose... Even when we have race threads for these things...

Shall we discus brake-checks that were passed off as accidental?

Moderators?

One interesting one from F1 history: the 1988 Spanish Grand Prix...
Riccardo Patrese on a flying lap in qualifying comes up behind the Tyrrell of Julian Bailey who is cruising back to the pits. Patrese then slams on his brakes in front of Bailey, who rear ends him.
The stewards initially blame Bailey, and summon him and for some crazy reasoning Bailey's teammate Jonathan Palmer.
It's only a protest from Ken Tyrrell with video footage of the crash that ends up absolving them, resulting in a very tame $10,000 fine for Patrese.
