Redbull can remove sidepods and become the fastest because they don’t have porpoising

Another theory what if Redbull had to change alot their concept and don’t want to show anything to us?

During the winter they found something unseen by others and they had 5o do anyway the show for the ford sponsoring so they showed last year car
The theory that Red Bull found something in the winter that prompted them to change their concept can be safely banished to the realm of fairy tales, because it would have been impossible for a team to overturn its entire concept in the winter, even before the budget cap. The monocoque, which is essential for any concept changes, is defined in July and August, and things like the transmission or radiator are already ready in October. So overturning the concept in the middle of winter is completely impossible.

Certainly Red Bull doesn't want to show some things, just like in 2022, but the concept has certainly not been overturned. It's not technically possible. It's just that Red Bull doesn't want to reveal anything. That's why they didn't present the new car. The same thing was done in 2022. But that's all there is to it.

That they would win anyway, even with a Zeropod design, because they don't have porpoising - porpoising pretty much everyone already had a handle on before the summer break....
Was it the teams who got a handle on porpoising, or did the hotter summer months and tracks at elevation resulting in slightly lower air density help hide the phenomenon? As far as I could tell, RBR were the only ones that had less bouncing consistently regardless of conditions.
Mercedes said they got rid of it in Spain.

Porpoising wasn’t there , most teams only had bouncing

No one had "bouncing", that wasn't caused by porpoising.

Mercedes additionally had a "bottoming" issue.

Most cars had that

You can go watch the onboards in the last races and all cars are bottoming on the straight, some more severe than others

This happened in previous aero regs too. Some bottoming isn't necessarily a large issue

What do you propose as the explanation for the regulations change?

Mercedes never solved there porpoising issue. It was there the whole year including in Abu Dhabi. Certain tracks and conditions hid the issue but it was still there all the time. Red Bull was the only one who never had porpoising but also people on here are confusing bottoming and porpoising. Bottoming doesn't result in the car losing it's downforce and springing back up.

The entire front wing, and the entire rear section of the car are not included in it. A team could have a completely new sidepod, gearbox, diffuser, and rear floor without changing the monocoque.
This is half true. Fuel tank shape, which is part of the monocoque, is linked to radiator placement and radiator placement is linked to sidepod shape. :)

It is better to change the fuel tank shape to better place the radiators while changing sidepod shape if possible, though certainly we saw many teams change sidepod shape and radiator placement during the 2022 while working around the limitations of the fuel tank shape (that was originally designed for different radiator placement).

Here is the problem with removing the sidepods like Mercedes and the reason why Mercedes just aren't going to get any better if they continue down the zero pod route. The sidepods are what now control the airflow to the rear of the car. With the barge boards now gone you can no longer control the air properly if you don't have a sidepod. I'm happy the Mercedes will continue down the failed path of the small pod because it will mean there continued failure.

Mod edit - off topic structural concerns removed due to inaccuracy of statements
I don't prescribe to this sidepod theory from the beginning of the 2022 season. It's interesting how it has evolved to a critical flow control structure.
Can you describe what this "control" is achieving at the rear of the car?
For Sure!!

Apparently Mercedes installed devices on Lewis' car to induce porpoising to make sure they understood it correctly. Was Russell also bouncing as much? I can't remember.

Red Bull were clearly ahead of most in this regard, just a better overall design concept for the use of the floor.

In 2022 it’s way more important because they downgraded the suspension

Bring back 2021 suspension and no one would have problems

I don’t believe that theory

And every car had bouncing in Abu Dhabi

Pretty sure it was a direct quote from Mercedes, but I can't find it now. Will keep looking.
