Mercedes W14 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The weight limit of 796kg has been abandoned and the 798kg weight limit will remain in 2023 which would put the W13's weight at 807kg which is still probably about 10kg lighter then the RB18.
What reports is there to back up a 817kg RB18? Seems very heavy for them considering they did a lot of weight reduction over the season.

Silver looks a good shout on the paint.

Newey confirmed the car is 50kg overweight and uses only half engine

:? It was 15-20 kg at the start of the season. You may want to check your source.

At around April last season Marko told formula 1.de that the RB18 was ten kilos overweight.

Yes and every source has said that the heaviest was Mercedes

Redbull lost so much weight that they even had DRS problems because of it

I think its pretty obvious it is going to be silver with the green stripe and parts left as black carbon fibre

I remember a prior tease showing "44" outlined in red too, even tho i recall Ineos is also red.

Agreed. With them endlessly teasing black, but revealing it's the one paint missing above, it's clear it's gonna include black carbon fibre.

So the leaker from last week about the livery color scheme similarly matching W10 and that it went on a serious weight diet might be very accurate.

Stunning, it sounds great the Silver Arrows are back but let’s hope it’s has fast as the simulator suggest this year…

Shovlin and eliott explained that they don’t want to hit the weight limit
And the weight is overrated, sometimes the car has better balance when it’s heavier and more resistant for example in a lap 1 collision

Explains why mercedes front wings were so solid last year
No idea what Shovlin and Eliott said, but when it comes to racing cars, there are 3 rules:

1) all other things being equal, the lightest car will win
2) all other things being equal, the car with lowest CoG will win
3) all other things being equal, the car with the most centralised mass (lowest moment of inertia) will win

You get your car as light as you can, you get your CoG low and only then you play with balance... Minimal weight imposed does not negate this, you can still use extra balance weights to improve points 2 and 3.
Wasn't lowest Cog as a big factor thrown put years ago?

Certainly dismissed by Adrian Newey with his high rake cars and his boat bottomed Valkyrie.

Another high CoG car were those renaults with the top mounted intercoolers.

I seem to note "all other things being equal" ahead of mass, CoG and centralised mass. All other things include downforce, drag, balance, power, driver, etc...

Also, I wouldn't take Renaults after 2006 as an indicator of performance.
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

The late call on the W14 is already taking its toll so it seems:

Cant help but think its going to be very much the same as last year for Mercedes fans. At this point in the season the car should be pretty much finalised.

Wonder how long the shipping/freight times are over to Bahrain. 12 days left until the 23rd, so I imagine a LOT of stuff should already be on its way to set garages etc up.
