This is the official Williams FW45 car thread. The thread has been created to facilitate discussion specifically about the FW45 car.

Please, ONLY discuss technical items of this car. Refrain from speculation.

General discussion about the team, its drivers and performance can be posted in the team thread.

it's an absolute looker IMO


Scalloped downwashing sidepods, Alpine silverstone update style. Also an alpine-style sidepod inlet.. and an alpine-style shoulder engine cover with louvres there (although the louvres on this are huuge, presumably becausee of the small cannon exit). the undercut is also very impressively large

They have Red Bull's floor edge details, essentially complete ripoff of it :D and then the Ferrari floor cutout at the rear with the floor edge wing used as an element in the cutout to draw mass flow into the floor

Not massively detailed like the Haas i think but still nice

That is a good looking car! An interesting mix of philosophies. The front suspension (upper) is very aggressive and hopefully not too speed/wind direction sensitive; it seems to aimed directly at the upper floor edge.

Combining the slope with shoulders seems to be the path most are following with the sidepod design, i wonder how many will try the Red Bull philosophy of pushing the air out.

Comparisons to the old car.

The undercut on those sidepods are quite Extreme. They almost don't even have a bottom part. Probably good for getting airflow to the rear, but I wonder if they create enough outwash to help with rear tire drag

But clearly Red Bull and Ferrari 2022 have set the trends for the future and had the best solutions.

Williams dropped the slim pods pretty quickly

nose is noticeably wider and front wing is much more refined than last year's. More strongly outwashing
