McLaren MCL60

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Sidepod inlet shape is unique, cannon vent bends downwards, simmilar to Alfa Romeo's

Evolution rather than revolution, as expected.
I see a lot of last year's car on it, with a bit more Red Bull-esque details.
Wouldn't get my hopes too high but let's see.
What could be expected? The RB18 was very dominant… Convergence with the regulations was expected… Why not follow a concept that showed it worked?

So the Redbull route
To me it looks like a Ferrari/Red Bull Hybrid. Red Bull's cooling intakes with the longer lower "lip"(mentioned in passing because everyone always attributes this to Red Bull - this is a 2017 Ferrari invention!)and Ferrari's side "spill-over"-intake solution, Red Bull's "ramp-down" side boxes equally fused with Ferrari's "bathtube". Practically a total Red Bull/Ferrari hybrid! The cannon vent is quite extreme, but a total Red Bull/Ferrari hybrid.

Front suspension seems even higher relative to the chassis this year compared to last. Almost r-shaped where it meets the top of the bulkhead.

Evolution of last years car for sure but they have knicked inspiration from red bull and now looking at the top down view the downwash channels from the Alpine. That being said the sidepods are really shrink wrapped as they meet the floor. Likewise dunno if its just perspective from the camera's but is the top height of the engine intake lower than it usually is? it feels squashed into the body work almost.

Agree. Now I've seen some pictures from above the car. It indeed looks like Redbull/Ferrari hybrid!

No real surprises here. Given McLaren is lacking the the state of the art tools of the big teams, best to adapt their features.

They make everything by themself.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows
