It's quite clear that Ferrari saw excellent data from wind tunnel, simulator and dyno (for the engine).

Now the question if everything will be confirmed when they put the car on track and how much RB and MB improved. The amount of changes compared to last year is huge.

Enrico Cardile, head of chassis:
"In aero, we increased vertical downforce, to adapt to the new aero regulations and achieve the desired balance."

I think this is the first statement on downforce improvement in spite of regulation change from any team member, of any team. Some theorized this is possible, but is now confirmed. I expect other teams achieved this as well.

I believe Christian Horner implied this in his interview 2 or 3 weeks ago.

It was to be expected in second year of major rule overhaul, I predict all cars to be faster than last year. 2018 cars were vastly faster than 2017 ones despite some rather major adjustments to rules that had detrimental effect of performance, not least adding an anchor like entity right on top of f1 cars (halo ).

Maybe development scope is narrower nowadays, but it's still not gonna stop engineers to claw back lost performance and some more.

I honestly expected all teams would be getting quite close to peak performance last year, but obviously they didn't. I'm glad for the progress and somehow I feel like the floor changes wouldn't have affected theoretical peak performance, as it would lead to too much bouncing. Just a feeling.

Better than creating a bump on the floor, I suppose. Flow in this area is higher energy, so will not be disturbed as much as around a bump on the diffusing area of top of the floor.

Are they? I’m sure their main purpose was to outwash air from the front wing, which goes against the spirit of the rules.

I imagine if they run them, there will be protests.

In the 2023 regulations 3.9.8 on page 29 has been heavily revised:



The "primarily" part is gone in the latest issue 4 from the 7th of December 2022, issue 3 (mid October 22) still had the old wording.
