If I'm not mistake, Mclaren, Aston Martin, and Williams already had shakedowns with the engine so this is probably a Mercedes operator error, which is ironic

Why should they get a extra shakedown? I can’t see how that’s fair to be honest.

There could be different aero configurations they are testing and getting more data from different things rather than the ones they used at the circuit today.

But shakedowns allowed twice per year and also 1 small (15km) Ferrari did yesterday

Filming day is measured in distance totalled and not in number of days I guess. Hence, if they haven't completed the 100kms, they are free to do so on another day.

If they do less than 15km, then it doesn't count as a filming day apparently.

Thats 2 complete laps of silverstone before you would need to pit (unless you stopped on track)

Seems a odd rule if you ask me.

Different events, so Mercedes can run tomorrow if they need it

They don’t get an extra shakedown… The rules allow:

2 X 100km Filming Days (they use the first one for the shakedown and the second one mid season if they need to validate a new upgrade)

2 x 15km Demonstration Days (this is what Ferrari used during their launch and what Mercedes used today).

Has nothing to do with distance… The teams don’t have 100km to use, it’s a designated day for that purposes in which they can’t run more than 100km

Ahhh, I see now.

I thought they were doing a lot more mileage today when I read the reports on twitter/comments on here.

they are using the short version of the track so more laps are available.

they use a smaller layout for testing since Silverstone can support up to two teams at the same time on diffrent layouts like this
