Mercedes W14

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

so this is feeding directly the beam wing?
No. Both the air from and above the vent are fed between the rear and beam wing. Beam wing is fed with air over the floor and through rear suspension. On RB and other teams this comes from over the sidepods mostly, while on Ferrari, Merc and Haas this comes from lateral sidepod flow.

Toto says yes, the sidepods are the first iteration and it is already planned to have revised them after a few races.
For me, that means that it was noticed too late that the revised concept simply doesn't have the potential that Mercedes had hoped for for a long time.
Even if Toto downplays the influence of the sidepods, the interview sounds very much like a farewell to their current sidepod concept.

You didn't read the whole sentence though! Toto said the sidepod will "change a little bit" which confirms they are sticking to the zero pod concept.
To be honest, the discussion about whether red is still called red even though yellow has been mixed in is too unimportant to me. It's orange for me now. And if Toto pours in more yellow after a few races and wants to keep calling it red for marketing reasons, so what?

Kyle’s analysis for those interested.
he confirms the porpoising isn't caused by the exposed floor surface and the flexing floor, same for sidepods

some here will still say they are the cause

He says he doesn't believe it to be the case and I don't think it really stands as confirmation

same was said by mike eliott so who do we believe?
he said the exposed floor and sidepods aren't causing porpoising

Can't remember anyone here saying zeropods caused bouncing on W13... There were people wondering and debating that idea, but in the end no one pinned the bouncing problems to zeropods.

T. Wolff "So this year, we went the other way around and what you have seen is for a large part the car we are going to test and race because it is fundamentally important to understand the platform and how the car behaves rather than keeping some bits in the background that may add a tenth or two."
Of course I struggle. I just don’t quit.

Some amazing work from Nicolas Carpentiers here, especially highlighting suspension geometry change:
